ArtDeco, if it's unusual for you to go into overdraft, try speaking to your bank. They may waive the fee. Ours did it for us.

I was also going to suggest this, It happened to me one Christmas when I accidently withdrew money from my current account instead of the Christmas savings account. I didn't realise until I got a letter from my bank with a horrific £40 charge. I went straight to the bank and explained what I had done and asked them to transfer the money. The young man who dealt with this for me was really lovely
and said as it was the first time I had gone into overdraft he would get the charge waived. I hadn't expected this at all and was so very gratefull.
Thanks for the advise, I will pop into the bank when i go through town on the way home from work on Tuesday, its the only time it has happened so i will give it a go , im so annoyed because i really wanted to get a grip with the food shopping feel like ive let us down already :(

Weather is foul outside so am not planning on going out more than necessary (ie: school run) Had gorgeous porridge for breakfast (using up some of the lo double cream) and just had the last portion of lentil and carrot soup (helps to balance out the calorific porridge! :D) with a sandwich 'thin' from the freezer. OH wants the prawns from the freezer with sweet chilli sauce and egg fried rice tonight and I think I'll make chilli and rice this afternoon - nice and hearty and warming for tonight and uses up the mince in the freezer, along with some of the frozen grated courgette - and some of the peppers in the fridge before they go over:)

  • Good luck art deco. Most banks are pretty reasonable when you chat to them and are up front about having made a mistake. I've been with my bank for 19 years (since I was 11!) And they've always been really nice. It might be worth discussing an arranged overdraft. You don't have to go in it, I'm never anywhere near mine, but if something comes out early you needn't worry about charges.

We've no snow, but lots of rain. Just looked over the forthcoming week's meals and it's looking like I can skip shopping this weekend. DS can have milk on cereal instead of yogurt and I'll go on Wednesday. Although my big shops are smaller than they used to be the past two have been bigger than expected. Must stick to list! (Although we now have 17 unused look rolls! Hana).

Today and tomorrow is bean stew, then the next 7 days are: angel pasta, salmon with lentil salad and noodles, red kidney bean curry and rice, tuna pasta bake, chickpea frittas, chicken butterbean and spinach stew (2 days). More variety coming in and DS hasn't complained about wanting pasta and nanny sauce yet...

£33.28 gone today in L!DLs, but then a trip to Pets@H0me & finding an unexpected bargain made me reconsider my whole budget; our elderly moggies are not eating nearly as much as they used to, and there's starting to be a fair amount of waste in the system. So I've done my maths & worked out a change of tactic that should cost us less in the long run and also mean less waste, but it will mean an upfront bulk expenditure. So I'm taking cat food out of the budget for the rest of this month & will add it into the "bulk buy" purse, if that makes sense.

Elsiepac, I'd love your salad recipes please, they look so good!

Well, ladies and gents, i've only gone and stuck to my weekly shopping budget for THE FIRST TIME IN MONTHS!! :T :D :j
I know its because of the support I've received here, so thank you all so much!
Less than 24 hours to go, and I've got about £2.40 left.

Once I've got a grip on this, I'll knock it down by a fiver a month until it's at a more reasonable level.

I'm actually thinking about doing online delivery every week from now on, to almost withdraw from going into a supermarket at all.
  • Done my weekly shop for £51.11. Really pleased with that. Now the hard part - sticking to the meal plan and not giving in to "I don't fancy that"

£8.95 spent for groceries, 4 x YS packets of 2 smoked haddock fishcakes and a few more bits and pieces, mainly for DH, to vary his diet a bit (mine atm is vegan dairy free and gluten free and I have all I need here already). Sig updated.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
