1st shop of the year spent £43.90 but managed to save 27.40. half price cadbury's drinking chocolate, canderel, mince pies (now frozen - good with custard as a quick dessert) easypeel satsumas, filo prawns, the rest was on salad items.
As a food shopaholic my personal challenge is to try and get into next week without going to the supermarket. I have failed on this front so many times.0 -
No spends yet this year!! I spent the morning, when I should have been doing other stuff, sorting out my money and budgets. I've given myself a jolly good talking to, and allocated spends to budgets. On paper, I'm ok, but it's real life where it all goes wrong!! I'm giving myself this month to be very frugal, to get it back on track, then I need to keep to it. I'll take a notebook everywhere, and write all my spends down, GC or not. I'm also going to sort out my mortgage asap, as I reckon I could save a heap which would make life a little easier.
Nsd today, and hope for nsd tom too, but need to visit a&da to get D's some new school shoes. Here's to willpower!

What kind of notebook do people use to record their spends - does anyone have a useful app on their phone to do this?0 -
Morning all! It's a chilly one :snow_laug
Hit the supermarket yesterday to stock up on some fresh bits I needed for school snacks (starting from tomorrow) and the DH's pack-ups (from today), plus cereal and what not. Am bang on £80/£320 for the month so far which I can cope with. Next "big" shop should be Friday and that should be Lidl. We have an Aldi opening up sometime in Feb, although it'd be quite the trek to walk to and from but hey-ho, good for my daily steps :j
Have a good day xxMSE-ing since 20070 -
spends of £6 in morrisons yesterday. purse shut until the weekend now!! xx0

Hi everyone
Looking forwards to starting tomorrow, although I'm still eating left over Xmas stuff I'll be glad when it's gone!!! I allow myself £25 a week for just me but that includes food and toiletries. I have a separate budget for fuel and one for treats ie coffee out, days out but it isn't that much so this year I'm putting any leftover grocery money in a pot with leftover treat money for extra treats!!!
This last week I've still £15 in my food purse so if it's still there tonight it goes into treat purse, and this coming week I'm hoping it will not be a food spendy week as the freezer is still rammed and it could do with defrosting so I think there will be a strange variety of meals!!

Hello everyone... I am very happily still eating Christmas goodies, but did my first shop of the year yesterday. £9.02 spent on spuds and veg, eggs, bread and yoghurt.
Yes, let's eat real food (what's this, chocolate? Thank you very much!)
Edit: okay, I'm adding in £19.24 of Aldi spend from December... as it missed my outgoings and only left my account today. So that's £28.26 spent so far. DOUBLE EDIT - plus local shop £2.44 = £30.70
If it were just a challenge to me I wouldn't count it, but that's my actual budget, so I need to.Keep reading books!
August grocery challenge budget £150, spent so far £45.95, remaining £104.05.0 -
Just realised I haven't taken off the £24.00 I spend monthly on milk and dog food so will do that now and adjust my signature.
Today's spend was £6.60 at Lidls for fish, bread, broccoli and 2 boxes ofuesli muesli(thought we had two boxes in the pantry but they turned out to be porridge oatsreally, must put a lightbulb back in the pantry!!)
Am cautiously pleased with the budget so far. The menu plan is a great help as sticking to it helps me to avoid temptation.
Extra pleased with myself today because I walked the mile and a half to the supermarket and saved the £2.10 bus fare.0
