  • Hi mate,

Sorry for not being in touch. I've had a lot of other things on my mind, so I've been very busy.

Unfortunately the insulation has been halted as they've found that some of the stones are possibly bridging the walls and acting as wall ties??? Also they've found rubble in cavity.

It's disappointing, but at least I can now move on and look at other options.

At least they conducted proper surveys and acted on the results for this.

Good luck with your other options.

Thanks phil. I'm left in a bit of dilemma though :(. External/Internal cavity wall insulation is also out of the question, because firstly council won't accept a change to the building looks as it's part natural stone and part rendered and I can't go internal as it would drastically reduce our living space. I've already done loft insulation, but I don't know what else I can do to help the property to warm up.

Have you asked about external insulation? They may be open to the idea as it is for improved energy efficiency. You may be able to mitigate the change of appearance by opting for a brick/stone slip or cladding.

I would be more than happy to have external insulation done, but unless it costs really cheap or can be obtained by grant, it's out of the question for me :(

Ah, fair enough. It is one and a half to two times as much as a full re-render job, so quite expensive.
  • Oh dear. Yeah that's a lot. Any other cheaper suggestions?
