From that scan it seems a very fair response. Quite how they expect you to identify a location from "Place,M1 North Tibshelf" is beyond me. It looks like they were meant to insert the location instead of the "place" marker.

Is it any worse than High Street, in a given town?

They've broken it down to the nearest town so it can't be that hard to name the driver.

Because it depends on if it was before or after the services, where I presume they swapped drivers.

Well the camera location is on this thread and the services haven't moved.

It is NOW becuase someone who is very kind has put it on here. However there is no mention of the location on the NIP.

This is also no different to a given street name. Lets suppose you go down to the shops and on the way out the shop, you swap drivers.

So then it becomes down to the force to identify the location for you so that you can then identify the driver.

One telephone call would have sorted that.

Did you ask for the exact location of the camera in your letter to the police before naming you or your partner? If not, they may consider that you failed to use 'reasonable diligence' to establish who was driving at the time - s.172 (4), Road Traffic Act 1988.

Do you think that you don't have any responsibility to get off your backside and do some homework? You've gone to the effort to post this whole thread and respond to it and to send a letter that will make things worse rather than better in the first instance.

The offence is complete if you fail to use due diligence to identify who the driver was. Like most people, had I been caught, I would be curious to find out where especially if I were an IAM member as it would suggest I should check to see if I need a refresh on observation. Failing to google 'M1 speed cameras Northbound Tibshelf' is not showing due diligence. Especially when you have gone to so much trouble to try and perhaps game the system.

ok, well that's a twist in the story!

i have now received a FOI response that I had sent to the HE. Apparently there is a Camera BEFORE the services and there are another 3 after the services! But there is no mention of this on any of the websites for camera locations!

Best contact the website and get them updated. The police don't have to do it.
