Return the letter, 'not known at this address'. Very can do what they want with it then.

All depends what you mean by "won't impact you". I bought a house a few months ago, and since the day I moved in have been getting various letters addressed to previous occupants from debt collectors - all have been returned. I came home yesterday to an envelope with a hand-written name of the previous occupant but nothing else, so opened it (couldn't exactly put it in the post without knowing who to send it to) and it was from a bailiff that had visited. The letter said that they would be entering the house using force if necessary to remove items. I've called and e-mailed them to make sure they call off the dogs on this one, but it was addressed to a "Ms xyz" and I am fairly certain that Mr xyz has also had a default loss at court that will soon be finding its way to the bailiffs. They have fairly unusual names, and a Facebook search indicates they now live in Australia, so they probably don't care too much...
This looks like fraud, so it should be reported to www.actionfraud.police.uk.0 -

Only real, court-appointed bailiffs can do this, and then only under certain conditions. Was the letter from court-appointed bailiffs or was it from scum? If the latter, you may need to call the police.0 -

I know - and yes, it was. There was a very real court reference on it. Disappointing that those who enforce debts don't check whether the people they're looking for are still at that address, particularly when (as seems likely here) there's been a court no-show that led to their involvement. Anyway, all of that is a worst-case, but particularly with a new credit application as in the OP, it seems wise to make absolutely certain that it goes no further.0 -

I mean't it in 'their credit report' as it's not in their name.
Persistent letters or worse, as in your case, requires further action but a first letter returned will hopefully nip it in the bud but won't be reported against them to the CRAs.
>>>cue GingerBob about those ghastly CRAs.
