Buying an ex Mobility vehicle

  • In some ways I despair about this forum, there are too many who attack when someone asks for help. It's in complete contrast to the car forum where the OP also asked for help - and got no criticism at all, just sympathy and helpful suggestions.

So - keyboard warriors go away, if you do not have anything helpful to add, don't bother posting.

Can you answer my question? What or how will make the seller do what you assert?

What prevented them asking a question relating to tax class before going to view it?

Why would you want sympathy and suggestions that are unlikely to be on any real relevance or help?

In fact posters just making platitudes and soothing noises will just cause stress in the long run when you think their sympathy or suggestions have any basis in fact or legislation.

or you can tax it online

Of course, but the tax class of the car needs to be changed first surely - can this be done online?
  • I bought a Motability Vauxhall Astra three and a half years ago and (touch wood) it's been great so far.

The only cosmetic imperfections were a slightly worn steering wheel (I assume some sort of steering aid had been fitted) and a mark on one of the seats, which cleaned off. In fact, the scuffs on it now are the ones that we've put on it by using it as a family car!

It was low mileage, at a good price with a full service history, so I would definitely buy an ex-Motability car again. As others have said, just check them over carefully, but then, you'd do that with any car!
  • The one we returned this year had had two new wing mirrors and a new passenger door... *whistles*

    No, it can't.

PO or paper form only for that. Used to be a local office thing, but you can do it at the PO since the 'new' tax rules of 10/2014.
  • many years ago when we were looking for a 2nd car, I suggested an ex-motability (please excuse the spelling), my ex thought I was suggesting one of those blue 3 wheelers!!!!!!!

We ended up buying an ex-motability Citroen ran it for 5 years, 70k miles, was a great buy.

Thanks BeenThroughItAll - confirming that OP did have to suffer the inconvenience of form-filling in the Post Office to get the tax class changed, and perhaps not being able to drive the car for a few days. I don't consider it a big inconvenience in the grand scheme of things, but it certainly would have been nice for the dealer to inform - I don't know how many people on here would think to ask - I wouldn't.
My advice is still to suck it up though...

We bought the car yesterday. If it had been advertised as 'ex Mobility' I wouldn't have bought it :(
This must be linked to disabled persons inability to control their bodily functions such as bleeding, sweating and pooing all over the inside of the car - which clearly puts the OP off a car that has been sat in (or even worse DRIVEN) by a disabled person ?
