What makes you WANT to be debt free?

I'm just fed up of paying intrest !
I want my money to be my money at the end of each month (apart from Mortgage and bills) but all the rest will be mine !
I only have the debt im in because we wanted to get on the property ladder and needed a car to get to work ! so both of these were (in my mind) essential debt.
But I now have a (very unflexible) consolidation loan for the both and while the monthly payments are not too high (£200 p/m) the loan is over 7 years
So have been saving loads to pay it off early (and incur ERF's:mad: ) but I cant wait

I dont want to have to worry about money, I want to spend what I can afford.
Most of my debt was get myself out of a bad situation, then kept borrowing to help me out of another.....
I dont mind having some debt, as long as I can life my life and know what my limits are.
I am in need of a new car, but I wont get one until I have paid off all my existing debt and have saved enough money to buy at least half of it - the rest on a low interest loan.
I have been strong I reckon
I know i can easily get the money, but I want to work for it and not take the "easy option"
I am a lot happier now i know my debts are quickly going down. I am now in the habit of knowing the difference between what i want and what i need

I read somewhere that every time you pay interest on something you are literally wasting that money, it said"get a 20 pound note what you have worked x hours for, now burn it. You wouldnt would you? Thats exactly what you are doing every time you pay interest on something"
Makes you think doesnt it?LBM 29/07/ 07

I want to be debt-free for the following reasons:
- so I can try and get on the property ladder after completing all my education.
- so I can get my wages at the end of the month and know that all of it is mine!
- I hate the feeling that the bank controls a big part of my life.
- so I don't have to feel guilty every time I buy something.
- Would be great just to have a relaxed attitude about money, not feel tense and worried every time I phone the bank, go to cash machine etc...

Hmm - I would like to say to my husband - book Friday off work so we can have a long weekend away together with our 2 year old son and take him out and about - I mean we do take him out and about a lot and do the £9.50 Sun holidays but its literally for 48 hours as he HAS to work for the money.0

OH !!!! - can I also add that I would buy a new microwave - as I was sitting here typing, my jacket potatoes have been zapped by the ten year old thing - its also broken a plate in there as well - sometimes it doesn't cook them at all and other times it ruddy well nukes them. I know its a bit late for lunch but I was trying soooo hard to just have breakfast and dinner and skip lunch that it all fell apart.
Oh and on a totally frivalous note (sp?) I would get liposuction and tell the gym to shove their direct debits and circuit training classes where the sun just don't shine !!!!!

Shell_girl - don't even joke about it - never be tempted by their 'do you want to save 10% on a two pund fifty belt by opening a card - once you do they've got you ......0 -
I want to be debt free for a few reasons... on a personal note, I've been quite ill for a while with chronic illness. It's the realisation that I have no cash put away to help that's scared me. and I don't want to be in this situation again, you just never know whats around the corner.
And I hate the panic that sets in when I realise I've missed a payment or have budgeted wrongly, its terrifying.
So mainly freedom too I guess!
But most importantly- I hate that MY (very) hard earned wage is paying the bonuses of Fat Cat Bankers. And I want to put an end to that as soon as possible!!!
