When you grow up you will realise that genuine happiness does not involve impressing other people. Doubt you will get many answers to your question.
  • Well, I'd be unimpressed if you bought the 2 bed flat above me and had lots of noisy parties, and taken up scarce parking with a posh car for the sake of having one. I'd also be unimpressed if you'd bought the place next door and never weeded the garden because you didn't care for gardening. Get a place/stuff that suits your needs and you'll be fine.

What a bizarre thread. I can makes cases for either scenario but neither case includes impressing other people.

Can you only reply if you have an opinion on which one you think is more impressive. If no one gives an opinion then I'll just carry on saving for whichever one I think people will be more impressed with from my future experiences when the time comes to buy one.

If you can't see that there is a glass ceiling that people are judged on depending on their material possessions (home, vehicle) and disposable income then you've either been working or middle class for too long to see that there are many people societaly above or below you who have looked into social mobility and would like to improve their life.

Given the stupidity of the original post i'd suggest you'll never achieve either option anyway so it's a moot point.

    Good luck enforcing that!

Well you've had 16 replies now, so that option is gone.

    Next?
  • I think you must move in very strange social circles. Why do you want to impress anyone with your choices? Why don't you buy a home that ticks all your boxes and suits you? When I had children and pets I lived in a detached farmhouse with a few acres. Now that the children have grown up and I don't have any pets an apartment would suit me. It would not dawn on me to wonder whether or not people looked up to me or down on me because of my choices.
  • I have been thinking, are you asking what the best investment would be but can't quite get the wording right?

If it was your partner or your colleague from work invited you to come round and maybe hit the town after what would you rather they had?
