It depends on the position of the two cars and the actions of the drivers. If the other guy was indicating, making small movement over and the OP held his ground to prove a point, then yes...perhaps it is 50/50.
If the other driver, with no warning and whilst just ahead of the OP, decided to steer sharply to carry on the roundabout, there is no way, even if the OP was aware of the other car, he could have stopped in time to avoid the accident. In this case, it should be 100 the other persons fault.0 -
He should have indicated, but I suspect most people wouldn't on a roundabout where the first exit is at 12 o'clock since it's customary to begin indicating left when you pass the previous exit. What I meant was that his failure to indicate did not make him liable for the actions of someone who appears to have tried to turn right from a position where that wasn't permitted and was potentially going to cause a collision.
I agree, but if he HAD indicated, it would just strengthen his case a bit.I suspect most people wouldn't on a roundabout where the first exit is at 12 o'clock
Yes, that's what I see too, but just because 'most people' do it, doesn't make it right.what doesn't help all of this is the number of people on the road who now indicate right when they're intending to take the 12 o'clock exit
The way I heard it, that used to be taught, but it was an old thing - people legitimately passed a test doing this and are driving right by how they were taught.0 -

I haven't been back for a while.
Normally I wouldn't dignify this with a response.
The rule of the roundabout as per the highway code look & give way to the right.
If I was looking to the left no doubt I would have piled into the back of someone to my rightPrivate Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA0 -

So I should have been looking to my left as well as my right.
So I run into the back of someone in front of me & use the excuse I was looking to my left
Perhaps they need to alter the highway code from look & give way to the rightPrivate Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA0 -

You should be aware of traffic on all sides of you. What were you looking on the right considering you were on the inside lane? Pretty flowers on the roundabout?0 -

Yes, you should have been looking to your left. Perhaps they have already altered the HC - you need to read it again.
It says "Be aware of other road users" and "All mirrors should be used effectively throughout your journey. You should use your mirrors frequently so that you always know what is behind and to each side of you".
Where it says "look to the right", is on reaching the roundabout, not when you are actually on it.0 -
I haven't been back for a while.
As you have come back it's rather disappointing that you couldn't be bothered to do the things that I asked you to do right at the start of the thread, which would have prevented much of the subsequent arguments. As you seem unconcerned about getting an accurate answer to your issue I'm giving up too.0 -

Sorry OP, but you need to have better awareness of what's around you than that. You're surrounded by glass and 3 mirrors, and you should be using all of those at a roundabout. If you don't have time to do that, you're going too fast.
And you came back just to give off to some posts you didn't agree with, not to answer the legitimate questions that could have confirmed you were off the hook. A Google Maps link for starters would be helpful...0
