NATIONWIDE credit card application ...being 'checked'

Made an application for credit and was offered a quote after running a credit cheque I was accepted with a £5k credit limit at 15.9% . Straight after a received an email from nationwide saying

'
We're just checking your application to see if we can offer you this credit card. We'll be in touch within the next 7 to 10 working days to let you know whether we need further information and if we can offer you this product.

Bit baffled as when I've applied for other cards in the past they've just sent the agreement out . What are they checking? Has anyone else received this kind of email before ?

  • Hundreds of thousands of people have received this email before.

It's a referral. You'll receive a decision once they have a manual check.

Do you hold any Nationwide current accounts?
This sounds like you need to be eligible for the product itself too.

Was it the Select card you applied for?

This is the first step, according to the " ruff " check, you are a match for this.
Now what they do is instead of the ruff check, human eyes will have a look in to your actual figures and see if you’re still a match.

If you have been honest in your application, do not have any obvious flaws that you are aware of and they have run a credit check, you should be good as gold. You can phone them up after 3-4 days and ask how its going with your application if there is any information that you can supply to make the finalizing easier for them. Some times this will speed up the process, some company’s like AmEx can make decisions while you waiting on the line.
