Order a low wattage halogen heater,or get a bigger radiator installed or a radiator with convectors (if the original doesn't have convectors) swap the fuse in the fan heater for a blown one,
Then when she tells you it doesn't work, you can give your new cheaper solution.

Not a bad shout.👍 And note to self lol - next time someone says they are going to go out and buy an electric heater check what they want it for rather than saying here use this one. As hone stay thought that she wanted it for occasional use in very cold weather not every day.😣0

if you only run 1 it will give approx 1/5th of the heat but only cost 1/5th of the price to run. :j
600watts will give 1/5th, not 60watts;)0 -

I have a couple of fan heaters with stats, and they're about as much use as a chocolate teapot. There's too much hysteresis on the stats, so they just alternate between too hot and too cold. I also have a 35 yr old fan heater with three heat settings but no stat, and that's much more convenient to use.0 -

A warm room isn't a right...
Don't get me wrong, morally it might be a good thing to do but too many people these days think it's their "right" to do this and that, when in actual fact, they have no right to do it at all.I'll throw away this 60W thermostatically controlled electrical heater, and replace it with a nice 3kW heater, safe in the newly found knowledge it will cost the same amount to run.
Just because it uses less energy, if you need it on twice as long then yes, it would cost the same to run.0 -
For most lodgers, 'their room' is a bedroom.
Many owners do not appreciate that most CH systems have the radiator size in a bedroom designed to heat the room to 3C to 4C lower than the living rooms. Thus when a room thermostat is set to, say, 20C bedrooms can be a couple of degrees lower.
This is a particular problem in student 'digs' and we have had many posts complaining about high electricity bills caused by fan heaters in individual's rooms.0 -
All landlords want controlled conformable minimum costs, most / many / all renters will put some type of £10 plug in [hide-able] additional °C heating if they are cold - its just human nature !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. My mistake. Equally, however, OP most certainly does not have the right to interfere with their lodger's personal belongings, e.g. the fan heater.0 -
The fan heater actually belongs to me. I gave it to her to use thinking it would be an occasional thing in very cold weather.0

Not sure if this has been covered but is the rest of the house adequately heated because, if it is and she just chooses to sit in her bedroom, I don't think she should expect to have any extra heating in there.0
