Folk have mentioned Aldi & Lidl in this post. I have been told that Fold Hill have Aldi lorries in their car park and I'm pretty sure they supply Wilco too- especially the hide treats.
As for not feeding a pug.... words fail me. They buy an expensive almost designer breed..... and then want a food bank.........whatever next!!??

Why do you need more food for the family?

    It's a day, 2 or 3 meals

Sorry if I sound harsh, but you decided to get a dog. It's up to you to ensure the dogs needs are met

Cut back elsewhere to ensure your dog is fed

Have to say, I agree with this. When I ordered our Christmas dinner at the end of November I ordered two 10kg bags of kibble for my dogs. This ensures they won't run out over Christmas. Their needs are just as important - more actually! - than ours.

We have 2 extra large dogs and 9 cats this year has been a nightmare for us as OH has been off sick since March and we have lost £1000-£1500 a month from our budget.

The animals have ALWAYS been our main priority and we are able to feed them all on about £70 a month thanks to Lidl and leftovers. They are all healthy and a great weight and touch wood had no issues and the cats go crazy for the lamb and mint food from lidl.

If i am cooking veg for us I buy a big bag of frozen veg from aldi costs under a £1 and cook the whole thing any left overs go to the dogs. Same if I cook a chicken we strip everything we can off it and the cats and dogs get that.

Also keep an eye out for meat on the reduced counter in your local supermarket that can be handy.

I too hope this is a troll. If they are willing to skimp on a dog's food, what would they do about vet treatment ?

We once had a very poor Christmas, due to sudden unfortunate circumstances; no special meal, the children had (in fact agreed to) small presents but there was never any consideration that the dog ( a collie) would go without his usual food. We would have gone without food before starving Benji.

I feed two cavaliers (much larger than a pug) on one tin of Butchers tripe and a few mixer biscuits for about 50p a day. (I buy multipacks which work out at 24 tins for £10)

raw feeding is the best way to feed your obligate carnivore. Ask the butchers for raw meaty bones. Things like chicken & turkey legs & wings are cheap. Turkey gizzards, hearts, offal are excellent & cheap nutrition for them too. Check out the raw feeding group on facebook

Note: raw feeding needs to be balanced for dog/cat health - do some research.

I too hoped that this thread was a wind-up. However - in case, in future this thread comes up in a search, then I would suggest that before anyone gets a dog - pug or rescue - the first question is whether you can afford to keep it.

Coming at from a slighty different position

You all know this time last year following some major problems I wasn't working and our lifestyle changed completely.

When we got the dogs and tomcat I was earning a good salary and we could easily afford them.

We obviously developed another 3 strays during the year at a time we really should have been turning them away.

If it hadn't been for the kindness of strangers and sample packs of food our animals wouldnt have been as well cared for.

Some food banks do have some pet food I now contribute pet food as well as some human stuff to the local food bank as they didn't have any and people may well have animals.

Assuming this thread isn't a wind up, we have 4 dogs, 2 large, 1 medium and one small and they all eat Dr. Johns. They are fed twice a day and they go through a £10.49 15kg sack every 8 days. They do get leftovers (as long as it's not onions and the other foods that dogs can't have). I'm sure if we can feed 4 dogs for around £10 a week, a pug should only cost that a month!!!
