A pug eats very little. Are you spending a lot on presents? In which case don't - feeding your dog has to come before all the extra tat that people spend on at Christmas.

You say 'furry friends' - plural - in your initial post, yet only mention one dog. Do you have more pets?
  • I would rather go without myself than not have enough food for my pets. You can get pet food quite cheaply. Also you could bulk out biscuits with left over veg from your dinners. My dog loves carrot and green beans.

Christmas comes at the same time every year so if you know you're going to have extra expenses, you need to start budgeting better and putting money aside so you can always afford petfood.

    Hi,

This is my first time posting. Google didn't answer my questions...

Basically money is tight for us this time of year and we are struggling to cut costs any more. Does anybody know any good places or ways to get low cost pet food? Are there food banks for pets? I've emailed a few different animal charities, but haven't heard back. Really don't want to give my furry friends away :( Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,

LIDL and ALDI have cheap priced, decent quality pet food. Oddly, Wilko's does too, and even Morrisons has a budget price one.

Food banks may have some pet food. Never been to one. Thankfully I have never needed to go to one. :o
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

Also, Tails.com are also doing a month's free trial for £1 delivery at the moment, they score 3.3 out of 5 on the allaboutdogfood site too.
you could do this for a month and then say your dogs ran away and you got a new one and could he have the free trail for him, might work.
Or try it next time at different address's, like a relative

When my friend and I go out to a pub for a meal, she asks them for a sausage for her dog. I was really surprised that they always gave her one for free. You could pop round to some local pubs/similar, with your pooch - and ask if they'd save some scraps for Hugo. They do need to be close though as you'll need to pop in daily to collect. You'd only need one to be close/good.

Ditto if you're anywhere near one of those things they call "butchers" ... although they are rare in some places.
  • My 2 are fed on a completely raw diet and it saves me a fortune. Don't know what your budget is but the smaller of my 2 is a Siberian Husky and she costs £1.35 a day to feed so a pug would be half that price. Maybe less.

Raw is an option. Or put a jumper on. Use less lighting. Don't waste your money in extra Christmas food. Feeding your dog is way more important than any of that.

Dog food is a relatively recent phenomenon.

For centuries, dogs and cats were fed the same as the family ... scraps, leftovers, etc.

If my dogs relied on that, they'd starve . . .

I do hope this post is a joke/troll.

You decide to have more for yourself/family/friends for Christmas and a feeding a small dog is a problem?

Pugs are not cheap to buy but small enouh to be cheap to feed.

Friends/family visiting? As each to bring a tin of food.

    Cold? Put extra layers.

Sorry but how dare you even thinking of approaching charities that are struggling as it is for food for an EXPENSIVE breed of dog that you decided to buy and now "have a problem to feed because of Christmas".

    Honestly, how dare you?

You are not saying "we all lost jobs" - you are saying you want to have nice Christmas - feed your dog FIRST.
