You should post on another board with a different title "Can not afford being extravagant at Christmas". Saying you can not afford pet food for ONE small dog because of Christmas will get you no sympathy on Pet Forum. And rightly so.

I have ended up with extra pregnant cat and then her 6 kittens at some point 5 years ago while I was out of work and struggling to feed my then 6 cats and a large dog. Bt took the pregnant homeless cat in as there was no other option.

People from this forum helped a lot - by sending me tesco vouchers, ordering food and litter for the little cat family and it was very much appreciated. But that was something unexpected and not lack of planning on my part or lack of consideration on my part.

There is a massive bunch of amazing people on this forum- in the right circumstances a lot of people were/would be willing to help. But this is not the case described here.

If you can't afford to feed a Pug then you're in deep doodoo!
I see you can afford internet access though?

I hope it is a troll too.

First says pets plural then it is one small dog BUT "someone else has the same situation with cat". A CAT? !!!!!!....

Sorry I just call things as they are

Well done suki1964! Someone who can shell out for a pug should be able to afford it. If s/he really cannot afford to feed it, I suggest that she offers it to Rescue - and buys a stuffed substitute.

Or the next post will be "I can't afford m-fy pug anymore - so I want to sell it before Christmas ....."

Do without a couple of packets of fags/a bottle or two of wine - and the pug is fed for a week. And in the New Year, when the Rescues are full to over-flowing, you'll see another ickle pug on the board :-( :-(

There are people who struggle to feed pets. I'm sure foodbanks will have pet food.

However, I'd starve before my pets went without and as for rehomimg them?

As others have said, aldi, Lidl, value biscuits from tesco or asda. Too many pets end up being given away at this time of year as it is!

we have tried all the usual brands for our cats, they are so fussy.

move them onto the morrisons own brand cat food flakes and they love it.... typical, we saved money and the cats are not starving.

Dog, well he would eat our food if he could, it's bad for him in the long run.

Seriously op Christmas day Chicken veg and some roasties. I'm so busy and tired with my new fudge business that i haven't really thought about Christmas this year thank fully husband and grown up son are the same, so no decorations this year, roast dinner on the day maybe a cheap bottle of sparkly asti from morrisons. That's us happy, we bulk buy each month the animals food, I always make sure they have more than enough, just in case we have a lean period, they will always have food, my birthday next week, again to busy and tired to care about it, rather see my fur babies are happy.

Hopefully you are putting money aside for your pups jabs each year, flea and worming treatment etc...

Actually not sure why i bothered to write all that, it's got to be a troll

  • My cat costs me less than £5 a week (food and litter) I would always prioritise what he needs over what I need as I'm the one who took him on, he had no choice.
Surely you have something you can put on ebay for some quick cash or some receipts for things you can return? I'm hoping this is a troll post though as I can't believe anyone would pay for a fancy dog (or any pet actually!) then not be able to feed it.

I really hope its a troll too.

My cats have always been part of the family and treated as such that they get included in the budgets and spends.

I am lucky now I can afford to buy a wee bit better food for my kitten instead of whiskas - trying out applaws and lilys kitchen - hopefully kitten takes to it.

But I know supermarkets do have cheaper food and in past when my previous cat passed I donated my excess food to a neighbour - maybe I should of thought of a food bank.

Animals are forever not just a passing phase - what was the slogan years ago "a pet is for life not just Christmas"

I was on my own a few years back and my Christmas lunch was a nice wee meal - nothing fancy - shepards pie but it fed me and I was happy eating something I could eat instead of overstuffing my self with food.
