I don't think the responses are harsh or indeed nasty - they were realistic and factual.
Irrespective of the occupation of the passenger, the same rules of carriage apply unfortunately.0 -

She's not changing on a whim.
BA oversell on most flights - its part of their business model, so they don't have seats to resell.
OP - whatever you do, don't think you can turn up in London and get on the TATL flight without starting in Edinburgh. They'll cancel the whole thing if you don't fly sectors in order. Either cancel and pay the change, or position to Edinburgh.Legal team on standby0 -

But she's no different to any other family having to move through work. The armed forces aspect is irrelevant.
If you want to change a flight, the ticket is recalculated at current prices. OP should have checked fare rules when booking, especially as a move is always a possibility in their job.0 -
If I was to take out the international flight and just look at it as an internal flight costing around £120, do you think I would pay the £550 or just not turn up? They have me over a barrel on refusing me entry to the international flight if I don't pay the ridiculous fees to cancel a very cheap internal flight. Hardly seems fair, would expect an admin fee to be around £50. they will be saving lots on fuel, baggage handling and in flight services etc.0

Unfortunately the RAFs response is tought sh**. As far as they are concerned you sign up to do a job 24/7 and they don't care about anything else. perhaps we should just not bother to have personal lives at all outside of the RAF. thank you for your helpful response.0

Can't think of many other jobs where people are expected to move within 8 months of a previous move, this continues for the next 20 years! in the private sector you would receive a re-location package if this was the case. just don't appreciate BA bigging themselves up in the press about supporting service families and benefiting from the publicity and then not following through.0

I can pretty much guarantee that this will cost you less than £550, even if you have to fly to Edinburgh the night before and get a hotel for the night.0 -

Presumably you knew a new posting was a possibility when you booked.and that your husband's employer has a policy of not refunding in these circumstances so you booking a non changeable flight was at best a little short sighted and at worst daft.
Hardly BAs fault.
Oh but we should be a special case and not be expected to follow the rules is a common forces attitude but really why ? Postings are part and parcel of military life surely ? I'm quite surprise no insurance company doesn't offer this kind of cover there would be a demand for it I'm sure.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Or maybe you should have thought about the impact on joining the military would have on your personal life properly before signing on the dotted line. Every job has its downsides, considering if the impact of them is worth it or not is part of choosing a career.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
