I can't really understand how people can fill up their bins to bursting, if their bins are those big grey ones like we have.

Ours is emptied every fortnight and we regularly have just one kitchen pedal bin bag in there - full of light food container wrappers, tissues etc. Everything else is recycled. I'm certain that we could go to monthly collections, or even less often and it wouldn't matter a jot.

What on earth are people throwing away?

Aren't you just a saint... how's life in shangri-la? How many people of what ages live in your household?

People have different lives, some may be doing work on their houses, get rid of stuff as kids grow out of them, have materials left over after a day's work, and a thousand other things (that includes buying heavily packaged things all the time and being lazy with recycling of course).

That's the thing. People often make the mistake of assuming everybody else's circumstances are just like their own.

Actually, as Chet Atkins once said, I'm only a part time saint.

    Sad, but true.

Now, I've simply accepted that most other people's social conscience is rarely in the same league as mine. :A

Have you given up your attempts to raise your levels to theirs then?

Whilst I'd like to think that a bin "already placed out on the street" is fair game, I can see two problems ...

Some streets don't have front gardens. They could have moved the bin round from their back yard to the front, but still intend adding a bag or two to its contents. So it might not yet be 'space to rent'

Our council - and probably others - has threatened not to empty a particular recycling bin if it is contaminated with incorrect rubbish. Allowing other less considerate people to add their (unsorted) rubbish to the bin could result in the bin not being emptied at all.

Yes, absolutely. Huge bonfire tonight. I had around 6 sacks of random DIY waste. At £3.50 a sack that's...well...err....a lot for a poor [STRIKE]baby boomer[/STRIKE] pensioner, like me. music-smiley-019.gif

Oh, you've got one of those councils too. Luckily being close to the county boundary the next council as of yet don't charge.

Hi, it was simply a hypothetical question, I was canvasing opinion.

Me? my neighbours and us have an arrangement where if bins are empty on bin day, inter topping up is fine. This is usually the green garden waste bin, as we don't have too many drinkers that overload the red bin, :D.

Again, if I caught someone filling my bin, I'd be pretty passed off, but given the bin is no longer in the hands of the householder, I think it's still unclear.

To explain, years back I knew a chap that had no space in his bins everyweek, he went to work at 5.30am and knew all the bin days on his route. You can guess the rest.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
