Is it an offence (to put rubbish in someone elses bin?)

As above,
Bins are out, yours is full, several doors up the road theirs is out but empty, is there any offence by putting your excess rubbish in their bin when on the pavement
Risk of a whack on the nose from a belligerent neighbour I realise, but only interested in in the legalities of the hypothetical situation.

I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

If you believe the councils (and I don't) you shouldn't have to use a neighbours bin if you're recycling properly. I can't see it being any different to using their skip without permission.0

I was told by a council official it is an offence0

As that person will be paying for their bin to be emptied I would guess yes it is illegal as you have used a service they are paying for without permission.
However I can't see anyone being taken to court over it.0 -
If bin belongs to other party (paying for a service) its illegal and would be classed as fly tipping .( rthese are not the same as those included in rates )
But most bins/ collections, There not your or there bin but local authority /council bins could these prosecute in theory they can prosecute anyone putting waste in there bins without right consent Its argued anything that goes in a bin becomes the bin owners/ removers property unauthorized removal would be classed as theft ?0 -
If our bin is full, next door have been nice enough to take the top bag out of ours (or come out when they hear us struggling to ram the lid closed!) and put it into theirs.
I think our situation is a bit different though, as we've recently moved in so bins are more full than usual by unpacking/buying new items. We also have a lovely next door neighbor...
Can't you ask them, assuming you get along?
I would be pretty mad if someone just put rubbish into my bin when on pavement or not, without asking. What if i put it out, planning on taking the final black bag out later that evening - and come out to a bin full of someone else's rubbish!0 -
How could it not be illegal to do so?
But - it would be a waste of time at the least to try it I would imagine. A few times I've found someone else's rubbish in my dustbin - and I've just thrown it into their garden (as it was clear just who the culprit was). They eventually clicked that that was what would happen to it - and they stopped doing that.0 -

Why???????I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -
Once my bin is on the pavement then I doubt I would be aware if anyone were to use it and it wouldn't bother me if someone did. Why would it?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Where I am (not UK) general waste bins are charged on a pay by weight system. This is to encourage use of recycling bins which are free.
So there could be a temptation to put heavy items in someone else's half filled bin! Close neighbours would never do that, but it has been known that people from elsewhere have tried it!
Gravity locks are your friend here. Look it up!0
