there is a history of attacks inside the woodland. There are people who camp in there and certain people who meet up at night. I'm walking the opposite side of the road next to houses, cars pass me and there are street lamps on. still don't feel safe about it.0

there was this time walking down the same road when a eastern European man thought i was a prostitute! he was slowing his car down in front of me asking me if i wanted a lift and if there was a place he could find 'woman'., but that was when i was doing my other job, that was 8:00 in the morning.0

And walk confidently! Presuming as it's a maintenance job you have sensible shoes on, unclear if you male or female but dress for walking not partying.
If it's a large employer, ask if they could run a session on - not sure what to call it! Not self-defence exactly, but something similar: safety consciousness.
There is NO way i would dress for "partying". thank you for your idea, but this place where i work would not do a self defense course they are very short on money.0 -
Although your fears are not groundless, it is fairly certain you would be reasonably safe as there have been no attacks on people walking opposite the wood. One can never be 100% safe of not being attacked anywhere.
So with the precautions of carrying a rape alarm, walking purposefully and boldly, if you still don't feel safe then you will have to decide if the job is worth more than the fear and stressIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

His nationally/ethnic origin must play a big part in this....0 -

what makes you say that? its not a 'big' part just a description. oh i get it, because i specified that he was Eastern European that implies that I dislike Eastern Europeans, Give me a break.
Well, did his nationality have any relevance? If not then I don't really see why you should be given a break.0 -

no his nationality does not have any relevance. I had to say he was not from the UK when i gave a description of him. it was not necessary to write that in this forum though, so i apologize for this. the last thing i want now to be be call a racist as well as being bloody scared going to work.0 -
There are affordable ways to move a bit quicker.... from electric scooters to bicycles and mopeds.0
