Do you all have regular savings accounts or where do you keep the money you're declaring?

Mine's all sitting in my current account so not sure if I'm saving or by how much really, if that makes sense? Would rather put it to one side that in with my day to day monies!

In declaring your amounts saved, do you include money towards ISAs or anything??

Half of my savings are in my current account as it's the best interest earner! However I have a smaller regular saver with a moderate interest rate, and have also just opened a tesco account to get the 3% too, so that when I exceed the limit on my main current account, I have an overflow. It's definitely not ideal having my savings in my main account, because the temptation is there, but anyway I have a budgeting app that doesn't account for my savings amount that I use religiously, so I have a number in my head of how much money I have to spend, and I have a spreadsheet where I track my savings pot and how it's spread out etc. So I always know how much should be left in my current account untouched. Like a separate ringfence! It's a bit complicated but has been working since December when I started saving.

I would say definitely start a separate account if you're spending on rubbish the money you're not spending on specified things.... Then you'll be saving! Or perhaps it's just a matter of a mind shift, and saying, this month there will be £200 left in my account before payday, next month £400 etc.

And yes ISAs would count! I count everything I don't spend... Ha! But I'm in the very early days of saving. This year is about building my emergency fund, but I don't want to officially park that until I've then got some more accessible rainy day savings behind me as well. Then next year I'll be looking at some long term investments.

But basically, with this challenge, you set the rules! So come join us if you want - we can help you along the way but you can really do it however you like! :-)

  • I just found this challenge, it looks like a great way to track our saving!

We decided that if we didn't take out a sum of money and put it somewhere else every month, we'd never save, so we decided to take out £1500 and hopefully survive on the rest :)

I guess that makes our goal £18,000 for the year. We're already ahead on this year, due to a couple of unexpected and generous gifts which we put straight into savings :)

How do I join, I fill out the form? It's not too late to join, is it?

Hiya, I've cheekily added myself to the spreadsheet.
    Can I officially join?

I'm hoping to save for my Emergency Fund this year - £8000
Cumulatively to date I have saved £800 so added that as my Feb total.

Did I miss getting a wee number or am I being impatient? :o:o:o

Personally, I'm doing a 'nitty gritty' challenge :);).

I don't include and ignore any monies I put into regular savers, ISA's, or pension contributions.

I do include: Interest, unexpected bonuses, certain dividens, and certain wombles i.e. cashback from cashback sites.

I put all my 'nitty gritty' money aside in an instant access account, which gets interest, rather than leave it in what I consider to be my main current account, which doesn't :);).

I've not decided what I'm going to use my 'nitty gritty' money for yet, but I do know that I will compound it somehow and won't be using it to spend on stuff / junk I really don't need :rotfl:.
