Getting married is not expensive - people's choices increase the cost.
Of course, it depends on your priorities in life... I don't get why so many people have children before marriage and then blame the delay on costs. What is more expensive: a wedding or a child?
Why should anyone have to get married if they don't want to?

Good point
My parents have been together over 30 years, have 2 children, own a house together
They aren't married but are very happy together0 -

But have they blamed the delay in getting married on the cost?0 -

I don't think they ever want to get married :rotfl:0 -
Married or not, I hope you have both made a will, even more important if you're not married.
If you are not married things can get very messy if something happens.....x0 -
how about 'in a relationship'?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

If you're in a relationship, you're not single.

Being 'in a relationship' is not a legally recognised status, being married is and come with legal benefits.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

This is without doubt true, but:
When one of them dies and the financial implications occur they may (not will) just may wish they had the legal piece of paper.
We often don't think about the implications of what we do until the worst happens.0 -
