Yes.... technically, the amount he pays is a contribution to their wages. I really don't see the issue here. They're not his personal body guard. He pays for them to do their job in the limited dealings with him.0 -
What speed you were doing as you passed the van is irrelevant. It is what speed you were doing at the point he pinged you that matters, possibly up to 1000m away depending on sight lines.
Yes, I realize that. But they can't have pinged me more than 50 meters away from the van as they hid it behind a large roundabout sign and there's no clear view of the traffic until you've passed the sign and come within view of the space they park their van.
Also, the app I use will start to alert me if I go above 40 mph...0 -

So are you saying that they only have a 50 metre view from that location and there isn't one upto 1000 metres?0 -
Give me a break!!! CRIMINALS beat up old ladies.
CRIMINALS also break speed limits and kill old ladies due to their arrogance in thinking that they are above the law.
Does it really matter if speed cameras are sometimes used to generate revenue? What better way to subsidise the police than by getting criminals to pay? If you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime.0 -

Read what I said about abuse of the language; a practice you're engaging in right here.0 -
Everyone banging on about the Police, speed camera vans are nothing to do with the Police, they're owned and run by local camera partnerships, private companies.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

You are nothing. You are simply a person who committed an offence.
What about the person who committed a motoring offence 50 years ago? You'll be telling us he's '(still) a criminal' next!
Only if he tells us about his crime. Under the rehabilitation of offenders legislation convicted criminals don't have to declare their offences after a certain time.
I was convicted of careless driving in 1979, and no longer regard myself as a criminal.0 -

I don't understand the semantics of the whole thing.
If you accept a fixed penalty as an alternative to prosecution (accepting is not an admission of guilt, but an acceptance that an offence has taken place) you haven't been prosecuted, but somehow you have been convicted, even though a court wasn't involved and you weren't prosecuted, and you are somehow a criminal....I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Does/did a court code get added to your licence when you accept a fpn?
There's a four digit number for them.
Edit: Just looked on google at an image. Even if you accept the fixed penalty the court code is added. So yes your conviction is by a court.0
