Seriously, if I was hungry enough to need a food bank, I'd even eat pease pudding

Reminds me of the rhyme : "Pease Pudding Hot, Pease Pudding Cold, Pease Pudding in the pot nine days old"

After reading through the first page I have no desire to read the rest of this thread as some of the comments about veganism were horrible! Veganism is a way of living that is "least harm possible". i.e. no other species (or our own) should have to suffer or die for us to eat. It's not "fussiness". I'm not saying more as I don't want to get into it.

    so, food packet ideas:

    - dried pasta
    - plain cous cous
    - any dried grains (bulgar wheat, buckwheat, quinoa, barley etc)
    - dried scotch broth style soup mix bags (they're about 50p for a 500g bag) with a stock cube pack and a bag of onions (as they keep well) - that'll feed two people up to 10 meals if really frugal!
    - baked beans and spaghetti hoop tins although not sure with the tomato allergy
-bread (pretty much all supermarket sliced bread is vegan - some white breads may have milk, but nowadays most are fine. I've not found a non vegan one yet if I'm honest.
    - bagels, wraps, pittas - again, not found non vegan ones yet (although personally I avoid l-cysteine as I don't think it's labelled well enough yet to know if it's human/animal/neither in origin)
    - tinned soups - lentil, vegetable, perhaps minestrone
    - dried or tinned beans and lentils
    - tinned vegetables
    - vegan spread - easily found these days, Flora do a dairy free one and Pure brand is vegan too, both of these are in the big shops
    - Marmite, jam, marmalade, peanut butter, almond butter etc
    - flour, yeast etc for making their own bread? Prob cheaper than buying it ready made for people
    - some packet cous cous flavoured things are vegan
    - ready to microwave rice packets - personally I wouldn't bother, just buy a bag of rice lol
    - crackers/crispbreads, although some have milk in so read labels
    - cereal - no kelloggs is vegan as I recall, and most Nestle isn't - except Shreddies. Tesco value rice krispies are vegan. Just buy porridge oats, it's cheaper and healthier and deffo vegan! Although those quaker packets, except for the honey ones, are fine too.
    - there's loads of vegan biscuits but I can't imagine they'd be in a food bank as a luxury item, but if they are: bourbons, choc chip or plain hobnobs, oreos, aldi dark choc digestives, pink wafers (I think), party rings

That's obvious store cupboard stuff off the top of my head but there's tons more out there.

Most bread in the UK is vegan. Read the ingredients. Tip: check it says suitable for vegetarians on the back, then look for things like egg, butter, milk etc in the ingredients (these are all allergens and would be listed in bold). We are vegan and use warburtons or ASDA's own. Also tortilla wraps are normally vegan.

You can get vegan salad cream for less than a quid at ASDA in the free from section. Also at Morrisons.

They do vegan cheese at Sainsbury's and Tescos. ASDA also normally stock violife which is also vegan.

    The red dorito's are vegan.

A lot of biscuits are vegan. All oreo's apart from peanut butter flavour are, and are normally on offer for 50p at ASDA. Also stuff like ginger biscuits, fruit shorties, rich tea etc. Lotus biscuits too (commonly available in pound shops).

Google the vegan womble (wordpress site - sorry I'm not allowed to post links)

Cooking (you'll need to do some googling for the recipes, but here are some ideas):

    Lentil cottage pie
    Jacket potato
    Chick pea curry
    Lentil curry
Make a stew with beans, veggies, herbs (beans are good for protein and iron)
Most jus-roll pastry is vegan (check vegan womble and the ingredients) - why not make a pie?
Stir fries (use rice noodles - these can be cheap if you buy the dried kind from the chinese aisle or supermarket)

Sunday dinner minus the meat (I'm fairly sure bisto gravy is vegan - check vegan womble website linked above to be sure)

Pro tip: Vitalite is vegan - use it in sandwiches or mash

    Sandwich fillings:

    Jam
    Vegemite
    Violife or other vegan cheese
    Salad

Ask the people you are feeding what they like.

Don't forget that most of the food you eat is actually vegan.

Vegans still eat fruit, veg, bread, pasta, biscuits, crisps, (vegan) cheese, sandwiches, (vegan) pies, pickles, etc, etc.

Honey is also not vegan - just mentioning in case you didn't realise :)

    Hope this helps
