Why are Eons prices and standing charges so high ?
My contract with Eon runs out at the end of jan, i got the Time to renew email and looked at the quotes Eon were offering me based on my usage. and decided to shop around for another supplier

    Dual Fuel
Eon.s cheapest quote for the next 12 months £614
    Scottish Power £467.

I noticed most of the savings came from the standing charge prices

    Eon
    Gas 31.5p per day
    Electric 26.1p per day

    Scottish Power
    Gas 8.22p per day
    Electric 8.22p per day

Why do you have such a high daily standing charge rate ? and how can these prices be so different.

As I have said this is a deliberate tactic. EON's number crunchers have obviously factored in all the variables, and this tactic offers the best cost benefits to them.

Hello 2Tired2Tango and welcome to the Forums.

Daily standing charges cover our fixed costs when supplying energy to your home. They're for things like meter reading and maintenance, customer service costs, keeping you connected to the energy networks and additional expenses like environmental and social obligations.

The standing charges on the tariffs we currently have available haven't changed for quite a time. I suspect they're the same as those on your present tariff. The ones you quote are for payment other than by a Monthly Direct Debit or Smart Pay As You Go. Paying via these methods means lower standing charges of 16.422p per day for electricity and 21.903p per day for gas.

Hope this explains our standing charges 2Tired2Tango and sorry to lose you.

  • Just a quick heads up all. The 10 winners of £1500 in our Spin the Wheel game have now been drawn and have accepted their prizes. We've announced the winners on our social media channels and website. They're on the 'nice little extras' page.

Well done to the winners and commiserations to those who tried but weren't successful. Thanks to all for taking part.

That's the way it goes sometimes Lord Baltimore. The competition was open to all our customers and the winners were chosen entirely at random. Other things like addresses weren't considered. With competitions like this, random selections are the fairest way of choosing winners.

Hope you're not too disappointed if you didn't win a prize this time round Lord Baltimore.
