Has she been paying NI all these years?? Or she might not get her state pension, then she'll be in trouble...

At FBaby. I am trying to do research and come up with a plan, which is why I am here asking questions. That's not naïve, it's being clever, doing research and ensuring I do the correct thing for the future.

So for example there is a course such as this for Personal Training and you're guaranteed a job at the end of it.

    http://ptqualifications4less.co.uk/courses/7-week-full-time-personal-trainer-course

It states that clearly on the course information.

Any other advice or help with this route would be appreciated.

It's not a proper job. They're offering you a self employed personal trainer job in one of their gyms. So there is no guarantee of work you need to attract your own clients in their gyms.

Also not sure how old your fianc! is but personal trainers in the gym tend to be people in their twenties.

You're looking into benefits, courses and making the plan. What is she doing? What does she want to do?

It's expecting a lot for your partner to retrain, get a job, move home all at once.

I think your idea of finding her accommodation is thoughtful but has she family she could stay with until the house is sold. That way she'll be a bit more independent and be able to plan her own life going forward.

I must admit that although you come across as well intentioned I find the fact that you hold all the cards and are researching a plan for her very strange. I just can't imagine anyone running my life for me to that extent.
  • I'm hearing what you're all saying here. It is a lot to expect. No decisions have been made and I'm not the only one trying to come up with a plan here. I'm just doing my bit to get informed, so that we can both sit down with the correct knowledge and BOTH make a decision. Your posts are seriously helping. From both thinking that the only option last night was benefits to now actually having all this information has been invaluable for both of us. It's hugely appreciated.
  • Why not let her stay in the house till its sold, then give her a share of the profits? That way she's not turfed out on her ear but will have the funds to decide what she wants to do career wise.

Right now I'm thinking I have a plan.

Isn't she involved in what's going to happen to her?

    Please read my post above.
  • I take it there's no friends or family she could move in with, locally? If it's only going to be a matter of months before she gets the money from the sale of the property.
  • There is absolutely no possibility she will get a full-time job as a counsellor after two months. You're looking at a degree and loads of voluntary work before anyone will pay you for counselling
