Personally id go with the leon as its cheaper and has slight more kit as standard0

And at the danger of answering the OP's question.... Focus.
No other reaon than I prefer the look of it and had a Seat on hire once and was less than impressed with build quality (rattles whilst driving), interior plastics etc all things that matter when you spend a lot of time in the car.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Thanks all (mostly

It has to be a diesel, & given my budget, probably with a price tag of around 25K
The lease company has a deal on a A200 Merc they want me to look at when I get home.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

Lad at work has just changed from a Seat to one of these and seems reasonably impressed.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -

I stayed away from suggesting that given the BMW/Volvo were too expensive
Couple of wildcards from my similar experiences
Mazda 3 (good engine/spec but when I looked 3 yrs ago there was no auto option in diesel)
Citroen DS5 - sizewise mid way between your choices and Passat and not as sporty but a good, well equipped performer with hybrid0 -
In which case, definitely take one for a test drive. I tried one myself when I was looking but ended up going back to the 120d M Sport xDrive, also should be within budget. Thanks all (mostly

No a fan of the A class, B class or the CLA/GLA. They are all based on the FWD A class chassis and are all essentially overpriced tarted up eco-boxes. I once had a B class diesel auto AMG trim as a hire car for a few days. It was decent and the interior was also okay but for the price I don't think it's worth it. It doesn't compare to the C or E class obviously but for the price you get a lot more car for the money with the latter two.
Have you forgotten the one you bought on eBay?
I bet beenthroughitall hasn't.0 -
Please stop.
BeenThroughItAll genuinely has owned those cars, but doesn't feel the need to bring them up all the time.0
