How much would EU citizenship be worth to you?

Britons could pay fee to retain benefits of EU citizenship after Brexit, says Europe's chief negotiator
A plan for Britons to retain the right to live and work in the EU – for a fee – has won the backing of the European Parliament’s chief Brexit negotiator.

So...how much would EU citizenship be worth to YOU?
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Depends what comes in the package! :)

  • I have no problem at all with anyone who wants to voluntarily pay £1000 per year for a European ID card and, effectively, an annual visa entitling them to live and work in Poland, Romania etc. It would be their choice to pay that and we would see just how committed to the EU project UK citizens really are.

Others, of course, could just apply for normal work visas as and when required.

Let's assume the rights associated with EU citizenship as defined in Article 20 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and Article 9 of the Treaty on European Union:

with the most important right probably being:
the right to move and reside freely within the territory of the Member States
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Depends on what'll be involved with getting to the EU without it. If there are VISA fees/appointments/queues without them, then it's easily worth £100/year for holidaying alone.

I'd probably pay more than that, and maybe even get my employer to cover it, since I can potentially spend a couple of days a month in Europe.

My employer has indicated that they would look at covering the costs for employees.

I would have imagined that it would be a fixed fee (for say 10 yrs) rather than an annual subscription.

Can we change the poll - wouldn't pay a fee but am not a little Englander - ever heard of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?

ESTA costs $14. And lasts for at least two years.

Remoaners claim the EU rights are central to their well being, well lets see how much they are willing to cough up for it.

    My bet, not very much

    Damn you.

I was going to wait until the poll finished and point out pretty much the same thing, that those for remain who take this stance clearly don't want to pay what they currently do pay via taxation since it's a load more than £100 a year!

(at the time of writing only 5 would pay £100 and 1 would pay £1000 with 10 saying it wouldn't interest them at all)

I bet that'd change after the first time they try and go on holiday.
