I acknowldge what you are say Pricefighter and to an extent, I readily support the campaign to abolish/avoid paying 0845 & 0870 numbers. However, my experience yesterday was that I rang the expensive 0870 number, listened to a variety of guidence information and eventually left a message, total time on line 2min20secs. A short time later, e7even rang ME and were talking at least 5 mins, THEY rang back again later. It may have been a "one-off" as a new customer, it might not.

I'm pleased to see Mike P. is back in the land of the living and as usual is offering to help, in this case, Margaret. Let's hope that before the day is out, her problem will have been resolved.

Whilst on, since moving from dial-up to BB yesterday and changing my email address, it has been neccessary to notify several message boards. Although I've done that, each time I look in, they say "welcome islandman" yet when I go to post something, the message states "islandman. you do not have permission to access this etc". What's this all about ?

Very good point Manutd. One thing I awlays did when on dial up, was to run the curser over the two green tellies. With naims, my outgoing isp, it was invariably 49,333, whereas with wanadoo, it reached that only one a week.

Back to your question. How am I able to ascertain the speed now ?. Providing it is a fairly simple measure, I will do it and provide the information you ask.

If you have a 512k connection i would suspect around an average of 50kb a second

It is advertised at 512K, however, you will see if you read the website of www.e7even.com, there is currently a promotion where they double the speed to 1Mbps.

I thought you meant there was some way of seeing if the speed was varying. My ignorance of such matters. islandman

Hi islandman and good to see you posting again :)

It's my turn for broadband any day now, so I'll check your posts because I remember you asking loads of questions before you 'took the step' ;)

I'm not about to change in a rush, but I know you were on the same server as me - Wanadoo. Did you have to give them much notice? I'm only asking in case I do change, but seems like everyone's happy with e7even?

I'll have a look at it, but is broadband as good as it's made out to be? I'm used to a slow internet and worried that any change will be lost on me :) I only mail, post here, and do internet shopping.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Sofa,
*I'M* not happy with E7even at all.
    Stay away from them.
As far as broadband is concerned, the good thing about it is that it frees up your phone. Also in lots of cases it doesn't cost anymore than dial-up so it's worthwhile considering.

There was a time when there was lots of complaints here about Wanadoo broadband but nothing recently so perhaps they have sorted out their problems?

Have a read of Martin's article here which gives a fair idea of some of the prices. I was with Tesco dial up and waited for their broadband as I had been very happy with them for years and apart from one minor glitch at the start I have had no problems. However, people will then say its datastreaming so you can't migrate so easy but as I am happy with the service I am not planning on changing meantime.

As a rule on here and other forums you will only hear about the problems people have and not when things are going well except when there is money to be made and this is why you hear so much about e7even, sad but true.

And apart from being able to free up the phone with broadband you will notice the speed, even on my lowly 512 and you can try Skype, great fun;)

yes, 2 days into broadband and I'ts like all christmas's in one. I simply can't believe how fast it all is. Advertised at 512k, but doubled to 1mbps for the promotional period (don't ask what that's all about). For myself and after much reading on this site, I felt that £10 dial up and £10 BB with this company, I hadn't anything to loose. Not for ne minute do I expect it to be fast ALL the time, but what the heck, does that REALLY matter ?.

Both my son and I who were connected the same day, had minor hiccups, but in my case, THEY rang me twice to resolve the problem. Happy users will always help via PM or phone.

I agree Margaret has a nightmare situation, simply because the box was incomplete as the disc was missing. I personally would have assertained everything was there before embarking, what a wonderfull thing hindsight is. I would also add, that she had pade for a "product" which was incomplete, and as such, maybe the company had a duty of care to replace etc. rather than guide her along the path of finding drivers etc. Hopefully that will be resolved to her satisfaction soon.

Yes, Sofa, so good!, mind you, the chanegover has somehow prevented me from being able to access & post in some boards, lord knows why, I've asked the techie board this.

I noticed under their Q & A, prices etc. that you
can have a month of technical support for £5.00.
    ..
When I switched to BB I bought the modem on
ebay for £8.00 incl delivery. Works fine.
