Mobile use

Hi I was driving today and my mobile kept ringing and ringing on passenger seat I took it on my lap as thought it was an emergency due to sick relative. Checked screen and turned it off. Went under the bridge and saw 2 blokes with camera on tripods up top.

I don't know if they were rozzer?

But is it likely they were able to catch people further away or as they passed under the bridge where they were?

And is it instant 3 points and £100 now? I kept reading 'may'? If I'm caught when will the letter from the traffic office arrive?

  • Hopefully they were cops, and they have got some way of nabbing you. And IIRC its 6 points and a fine now. Hopefully you'll get some of that.

You won't get any sympathy here - the same rules apply to us all and you should know what they are.

Do they not offer the course anymore? No that Ive been on it but when I attended a speeding course, there was someone there who had to go on a course for using mobile the following week

If you did not hold the phone to your ear of up I am unsure how a camera from on a bridge would have been able to capture what you were doing, you might be lucky in this instance.

Why not switch off the phone, then it won't irritate you and there will be no call to answer ?

They do and yes everyone knows what they are but off course everyone on mse is always whiter than white when it comes to these things.

The OP was glancing at their phone to see if was an important/urgent call, they did not take any call and there is no indication that they would. If it was urgent I am sure they would have pulled over and rang back but who wants to pull over just to find out you have missed a call regarding PPI!

Just like everyone on here drives at 29 miles per hour and never goes over the speed limit, of course there are people that do but mse seems to have way more than the national average of these drivers.

Do you actually have any figures for the 'national average' of these people, or are you just making that up?

No as you know I don't but we all know that plenty of people do drive at over 30 miles per hour in a 30 (i am not talking massively over just a few miles per hour over), it is very common you must have noticed it when you drive along the road. When I drive at 30 in a 30 almost always the car behind me will catch up with me.

Reading mse posts you would think nobody ever did this or glanced at a mobile phone.

There is a BIG difference between doing a few MPH over the speed limit whilst still, presumably, looking out of the windscreen, and taking one's hands off the wheel, swiping, operating a button, etc, to activate a screen, and then taking one's eyes off the road and looking at that screen, and assimilating the information presented.

I assume you're one of the many people I see each day who thinks it's perfectly OK to just take a 'quick glance' at their phones?

If your speedo shows 30, you're probably driving at about 27mph.

There are plenty of apps you can use to get your real speed. Just make sure you use the phone hands free!
