Top credit rating but refused by Natwest

I did an online application for a clear rate platinum credit card through my bank (Natwest)
It was declined.
Having checked my credit rating its over 900. I am on the electoral register. I have no debt other than a £1500 credit card balance. I earn £30k per year. Have had no late payments, and recently got accepted for a new mortgage just the month before.
All my accounts are held with natwest including a savings account with £10k in.
I did the online chat facility with Natwest to see if they could help and they couldn't see any reason why it was declined but couldn't really offer further help.
I am concerned this will affect other applications now I will have to look elsewhere.
Is this something to worry about?

As you just had a mortgage approved, presumably a large amount, I think their risk assessment would be to ascertain for few months that you can actually afford the payment to both your mortgage and you cards debts0

Checking your credit rating is of little value, what you need to do is check your record with each of the credit reference agencies to see if there is anything that would count against your application. It appears that Nat West use all three so make sure you check them all.0

Recent Mortgage app! I'm no genius but y'know.....0 -
Look at it from the CC providers position.
You already have £1500 credit card debt. You have just taken on a huge amount of extra debt with your mortgage. A month later you are applying for further credit. It's not really surprising they are getting a bit twitchy and rejected you.
I would leave it a few months before making further applications.0
