if you look to source a second hand engine or head then you could try the yellow pages for the phone numbers of - like a breakers yard agency. Probably on net as well. You give them your information about the part you're looking for and they circulate it to dozens (if not more) breakers yards across the country and then the breakers contact you. something like https://www.breakerlink.com

    good luck

You are looking for a cylinder head for a 3s-fe engine. but be warned, postal scrpayard parts are often the wrong part and guess who is usually pays return postage. And you shouldn't be doing this until you know what the damage is. Sure you can phone around to find one, but don't buy it yet.

Be also warned that yours is an import celica, they stopped using that engine on UK celicas in 1989 (from 1986). And then you don't know what slight modifications there might be between the UK 3s-FE and the Japanese later year 3S-FE.

With all due respect to Munky, I am getting references online from people who list the 3s fe as non interferance. The only way (and even this isn't guaranteed to work) to find out is to phone up Toyota and ask them.

You either sell/scrap it now or pay the 150 to take the head off, then go to the garage and see for yourself the damage that has been done. As already said fixing it will not be cheap.

    Do you trust your garage?

If you do let him sort it the cheapest way possible

Id maybe make an agreement with him that he takes the head off and if afterwards you decide not to repair it he can keep the car and you owe him nothing

If you do decide to repair it get him to source second hand parts etc as he will know what he is looking for

Obviously you need to trust your mechanic for this

Frankly you dont seem to have much of a clue about this so i dont think you ahve much choice but to put it in the hands of a mechanic

Wig, I didn't know this was an import car. But the details I have on the 3S-FE engine still say it is an interference engine but it is only an 8 valve engine. The 1S, 1SE & 2SE engines are non interference.

Penny Pincher, tell the garage what has happened, don't worry about hurting his feelings :D. He may even arrange the transportation for you for a small fee. Is it going far? It only needs towing.
  • just heard from the garage he is in the middle of taking off the head he thought i said go ahead well anyway i was telling him what i have found out and asked him about 2nd hand parts and he said that i would only need the valves?????? does this sound any better???? he was a bitmore helpful today xxx diane x

Yes, sounds promising. Just the valves a bit bent due to hitting the pistons.
    Happy chappy
  • Hopefully you'll only need 3 or 4 valves. Who is paying for this, have you told the previous owner?
