ASBO advice!!!

Was followed home last night by a CID police officer. Pulled into driveway and told I was speeding on a dual carriageway. The policeman did not have lights in his car to stop me so instead followed me home. The roads were so quiet and at the time I was aware of someone speeding up behind me. No cars on the road but me and him so definitely too risky to speed.

As he was CID he said he couldn't charge me with anything and didn't have a camera to clock the speed I was doing. Tried to tell me I was doing 95mph in a 70mph. Said he would put a marker on the car and on me for a year. I.e. ASBO.

Can anyone tell me if this can be done? There is no evidence to prove I was speeding? Genuinely believe this gentleman had nothing better to do than stop someone and intimidate them by speeding up behind them. Bad day in the office..?!

Angry and confused...!

Did you see evidence that he was a "real" police officer?
  • Yes he showed me his badge and used a radio to check my driving licence.

    1. That's no an ASBO; they restrict you from doing something and are court issued.
    2. He wouldn't need a camera to clock the speed - him doing 95 to keep up with you would have done it
    3. Maybe he can put a marker on the car (not you), but it'd be somewhat meaningless. Worst case is you may get stopped / followed by marked cars a bit more often.
  • Thank you. If it had been an asbo would I have had to have signed something? No paperwork completed and he didn't note anything down.

For it to have been as ASBO you'd have had to attend a court (I think); it's an alternative to conviction.

You don't get an ASBO for motoring/traffic offences - at least I've never heard of such.

    CID - Cops In-Doors

He was just bored and felt like playing policeman again on his way home, ignore it
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
