    Rock buns are really quick and easy and recipe easy to remember;

    8oz plain flour
    4oz each of
    marg
    sugar
    sultanas/dried mixed fruit
    1 egg
    a little milk

sift flour, rub in marg then add sugar. drop in egg and mix until it comes together adding a little milk 2-3 tablespoons is usually enough. add dried fruit.
drop spoonfuls of mixture onto greased baking tray (makes 12), sprinkle over a little sugar and bake at 200/gas 6 for 10 -15 mins.

Very nice whilst still warm :D

Hi All, I have been watching this new programme on UKTV Food by Rachel Allen on baking. It has had a load of good recipes so far and her episodes are really quite informative as some of the programme is set in her cookery school with real students so it is very step by step (ideal for the newbie bakers amongst us). I have put the link to the website with her recipes below (hope it works). Upto now I have made her basic biscuits and added lemon zest and poppy seeds (OH reaction was wow real biscuits) and the chocolate cake (which I have only just finished icing so not tried it yet). It is definately well worth a look :rotfl:

Hi Ali, yes she is the lovely Irish lady, she makes everything looks so easy. My OH is more of a Nigella man.

I have just ordered her book

I saw her book also in the Book People catalogue, and have dropped a very subtle hint to my parents (opening it and pointing the book out) that I would like it for Christmas

I still don't know what the chocolate cake is like, when my OH came in from the pub last night, he wasn't sure if I had made it for someone else so he actually left it - very unusual (I was in bed so he couldn't ask), he is out with his daughter at the mo, so I'm sure when he returns it will be all of 5 minutes from walking through the door and it will be cut into, so I will report later what its like.

I am just off into the kitchen to make my own variation on her quiche lorraine (broccoli and tomato instead of bacon). I do like it when I get inspired.

  • This time of year is perfect for picking blackberries!
I filled a bag the other day when I took the dog for a walk and have been trying to find some recipes online that could use them and that would not include apples (OH hates cooked apples) it's actually harder than you think!

Anyhoo - I love making blueberry muffins, so last night I made a dozen 'blackberry muffins' and they are deelish !
Have bought them to work today to try them out on my work colleagues and so far thumbs up!

Really easy to make with kids too.
This is the recipe I use.

I can report that the quiche was lovely, it had to be the easiest pastry to roll out that I have ever made. She rolled it out between to sheets of cling film and I will definitely be doing this again :D, the chocolate cake was very tasty but a little dry, but I think that was my fault :(, I put the sponges back in the oven for a further 10mins as I thought they were not completely done, however, with a splash of cream to moisten it up it was delish, definitely worth a try, I used MrS basic dark chocolate and it was fine. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
