Budget Planner Excel Spreadsheet Help Thread

  • Just a word to the wise - I spent all morning fuming at the 'puter/Microsoft/AVG etc as I couldn't get the Budget Excel file to open.

MY OWN SILLY FAULT - on here someone said, "open the Macro Protection and set it to the lowest" once I did that, it works beautifully. I have now saved it separately, and am now filling it in - I shall up the protection again and let you know if I can then access it .... *cue thunder and interesting music* ....
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D
  • Turns out I can't open it without keeping the security on low - I don't like this one little bit! - any hints on how to work around it would be appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance

hi MSE Andrea, happy new year.

Can l unprotect the Budget to insert a line or overwrite a present 'liability'? Will I need a password?

I am not very techie and have not used Excel for years.

Will I be ok doing this?? Even saying disabling macros confuses me. I do have Microsoft Office, would it be easier in there for me to do a spreadsheet?

I really need to do one.

Hi folks; tomorrow we're launching a brand new budget planner - which wont have any of the above issues; so if you hang on... it'll all be easy

I was disappointed with this new Budget Planner - It seems more effort has been put into commercialising it to have as many links to the Moneysaving website as possible than actually producing a tool to help people analyse their finances.

Apart from a makeover, nothing has essentially changed from the old version apart from a chart. The huge MoneySavingExoert banner is very annoying and blocks most of the screen.

Not at all - the fact that it works with OpenOffice is a huge benefit - just think how much of a money-saver that is if you don't have Microsoft Office or don't use the limited range of operating systems it runs on. This site is becoming more and more aware of open-source software, and for that I congratulate it.

LouBlue: Excel is part of Microsoft Office. Other than that I'm not really sure what you're asking, so just download it and see if it works. There's always F1 for help, into which you can type "enabling macros".

Excel 2007 required that the file be saved in .xlsm format for it to allow macros to run.

However this means that the file would then not be accesible to anyone ruuning OpenOffice or Excel 2003 and earlier

  • Hi there,

Is any one having any problems with the budget planner? I have excel and i have saved it to my documents but it is telling me that it is a read only file. I have tried unprotecting it but it is telling me that its a read only file. the answer is probably quite obvious i just cant see it!!
