Hi
I am trying to use the budget planner but cannot get in as it says that Macros does not allow it or something similar. What do I do?:rolleyes:0 -
Hi folks
Just to say we're in the middle of tweaking and rebuilding the spreadsheets to make them easier to use and stop some of these problems.

I'm also getting this message in Open Office. It seems a shame that as we're all money saving we can't get this to work in the freely available Open Office. If anyone hasn't heard of Open Office it's a fantastic free alternative to MS products. It opens all MS documents so there are very few compatability problems apart from the macro issue with this particular Excel document. I've used it for years and this is the first compatibility issue so far.
Any chance of making this budget sheet Open Office compatible please?0 -
I second, third and fourth this. I've talked to Martin in the past about the site articles being "designed" for Microsoft Internet Explorer, and fortunately that has been sorted out now, for which I am very grateful. But expecting people to use a highly expensive paid-for piece of software on a paid-for operating system when excellent free alternatives for the same and free operating systems are available is not about moneysaving. Moreover, it is ethically dubious because it is furthering the aims of a thrice-convicted monopolist that has just been fined £350 million for its illegal business practices. Come on guys - you ought to be on the consumer's side here, not big business.

well not quite... I see that these forums are generated and served using free open-source software (PHP and Apache) running on a free open source operating system (FreeBSD). Spread the lurve a bit!Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

I see it's been discussed but is there an openoffice version of the budgetplanner?0

OK. The spreadsheet has worked fantastically and I have just spent the last few hours putting together the most accurate figures for our income and expenditure. We are slightly in the red though!
So I have now gone through and entered amounts in the Monthly Desired column to help me reduce our spending in certain areas. However, these figures do not reflect through to the Expenditure Totals page as it looks like it should. I have re-downloaded and newly completed the spreadsheet, and again everything works except the Monthly Desired totals. Is this a problem anyone else has had?

Hi everyone
This is the time of year that the budget plan is necessary, but it appears the macro dissable in excel 2007 is causing problems. no matter what you do in excel or windows security it does not fix the problem.
OK. The macros in the file are dissabled on arrival when you download and need to be enabled before running.
Unzip the file to a folder of your choice. if you run direct from winzip (or whatever unzip program you use) it will not work.
Right click on this file and select properties.
On the security tab you will see a message at the bottom.
"this file has been dissabled" or something similar, and will ask if you want to enable. Select yes to apply, click OK, now you can open the file with macros running.
this may be the issue with Open office, I dont have it so it is not tried.
Anyway, hope it works for everyone as we need to save those pennies.
Have a prosperous New Year.
Regards
Nibzy0
