Neighbours with sofa in front garden!

Hi

We are currently in the process of trying to sell our bungalow. The house is on a nice estate, however the neighbours (across the road) around a month a go put a 3 seater sofa near their front door! They used to have two wooden chairs there that they sat on when it was sunny, however now they have a big sofa and coffee table and it looks terrible! Is there some way to complain about this as I think it's putting people who view the house off? Surely it can't be allowed?

Do you live in the southern states?

I'm not mad, I'm just aware that the deeds stop a lot of things such as building walls / tree / bush borders around the front of your property, having commerical vehicles or caravans parked on your drive etc. So they can't do whatever they like.....

Is it a fairly new estate then? I know a lot of new builds do have clauses about what you can and can't do to the outside but I've got no idea who would enforce them or how. Are the houses leasehold?

Unfortunately none of us here can read the deeds, so you'll have to help us out.......

Does it, for example, prohibit sofas being placed in the front garden?

Seriously, my best suggestion is that you offer them a bribe to remove the sofa until you have a buyer ad Exchanged Contracts.

If it were dumped out there, unused, you might have a case of some sort if you were lucky. Or, you could've even offered to take it away for them.

As it's their choice of outside seating, it's tough really.

I was more hoping that given the kind of thing that the deeds do prevent, something like the sofa would fall in there somewhere!

I think a few other neighbours have tried to talk to them about this as well but unfortunately no luck so far.

The annoying bit is that I've never seen them sit on it and given the recent weather it must be absolutely soaking wet.....

Those are restrictive covenants, they are not enforceable by you. And so far they don't restrict having garden furniture.
