Money Moral Dilemma: Should we buy gifts for my mate's kids?

We got friends who I'd walk over hot coals for but have never bought for the children when we've stayed with them - and we've seen the children grow up.
We take drink & nibbles & will take them out for a mea0 -
It's actually his old school mates.oystercatcher wrote: »I value family life, I assume the children don't see much of their father because he is working all week and the children look forward to spending time with him at the weekend. Now he is spending that precious weekend with his workmates.
I didn't say children deserve presents every time their parents go out , I just think it is a nice thoughtful thing to do when work friends are intruding into what should be family time. There's no must and should in this at all but it is a lovely thing to do. I am also assuming the children in question aren't spoiled brats with piles of plastic tut surrounding them.
I really doubt that the old school mates are holding a gun to his head to make him go out with them.
So it's his choice to go out with those old school mates.
The old school mates aren't taking him away from his kids, he's choosing to go out with them.
He's choosing not to spend time with his kids.
He's choosing to let other people intrude into his family life.
If anyone ought to compensate the kids for not being able to spend time with their Dad at a weekend, it's the Father of said kids.0 -
Why would you? what an odd suggestion! If someone was putting you up for the night they should have a token of thanks, but a kids visiting gift? Totally not, IMHO0
