Dreams Mattress Fault

Hi - I wonder if someone could help me please. My elderly parents bought a mattress from Dreams and it has developed an obvious fault. The mattress has been inspected by Home Serve who noted that although there is an obvious "ridge" down the middle, there is "no defect". They completely missed the stitching that has also come away in the middle of the mattress. This was not a cheap mattress and it is only three years old.

Dreams have "closed their file" unless we pay independently for another inspection (which they will only reimburse if a fault is found). However, they have given absolutely no help as to where we may find an independent inspector and particularly one whose report they will accept. There are furniture inspectors listed on the Internet, but I have no idea which may be reputable. Can anyone help with how I may decide (we live in Bedfordshire if this helps).

Thanks for any help you can give.

Sadly, I don't think that many people will know where to go when a fault report is required for a bed! It is just something which never really comes up for 99.999% of people!

Best bet is to contact some local companies who sell beds. Maybe the larger chain stores have the ability to inspect them for you? Maybe contact the manufacturer for advice or to see if they can carry it out?

The key thing to remember is that, after 6 months, the burden is on you to demonstrate that a bed is inherently faulty. The seller will unfortunately not be obliged to help you in any way, shape or form at this stage. In fact, they will be hoping that you just go away. So that's why you'll find them less than willing to help you find someone to carry out a fault report.

Another key thing to remember is that the fault report must CLEARLY state that there was an inherent fault in the mattress which was the cause of the issues. The only real reason why any sort of fault report would be rejected is if it doesn't state this clearly. It must not simply list the current issues without giving a cause. If, on the off chance, they decline a fault report which is valid then you take them to small claims court and present it to the court.

  • Perhaps it was this one? https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5554745

Personally I have dealt with a company called Servico who would be able to inspect it. I don't know if they would be accepted by Dreams so you may want to check first. They are nation wide.

If there is stitching coming away that wasn't mentioned by the previous report make sure you point it out to the person who comes to inspect it. However, simply having a ridge in the bed is "settlement" and isn't deemed to be a fault. More info in the thread I linked.

  • Thanks for the replies. I think that what makes this more annoying is that Dreams sold my parents the extra ten year "guarantee" so they would be fully covered! I'll give these a try as I'm determined to get a second opinion.

    Thanks again :)
  • Are they flipping/rotating the mattress regularly?

Is the mattress causing them discomfort?

  • Hi - yes, they have been rotating as directed by Dreams.
  • Dreams Mattress have some bad reviews on the web, I would have suggested a casper mattress, you can see a review right here tendermattress.com/casper-mattress-review .
Best of luck with ur parents mattress.

...The mattress has been inspected by Home Serve...

I am assuming that you mean the all-purpose Insurers
Did you call them in or was it a Dreams requirement?
I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.
