Easyjet Air Passenger Duty

I would advise anyone who has booked flights with easyjet to check the Air Passenger duty charged very carefully. On the last 3 flights I have booked I have been charged various amounts over and above £13 per adult. On making a query with Easyjet I have been told that the extra sums charged are for the return flights. On an economy flight under 2.000 miles departing from a UK airport and with no connecting flights there should not be a charge for APD.Up front seats and priority boarding do not change the fact that these are economy flights. Has anyone else had this same experience as Easyjet are insisting that APD is chargeable on these return flights?

Where are you seeing these charges? On an economy flight under 2.000 miles departing from a UK airport and with no connecting flights there should not be a charge for APD.
I assume you mean 2,000 miles, but I've never heard of a limit such as this where APD is not charged.Has anyone else had this same experience as Easyjet are insisting that APD is chargeable on these return flights?
No. APD is a UK government fee, and payable to them on flights from the UK. Other taxes and charges may be applied, but not APD.0 -

what do you mean by this?
The only ex-UK tickets that should not incur an APD charge is a child ticket
Band A is zero to 2000 miles and is charged at £13 for economy
Easyjet sell single tickets so a return ticket to/from another UK airport will incur £13 for each leg
What are the routes and fees you can see you have been charged?0 -
I think you are mixing up APD with all the other taxes and charges which an airline may show simply as 'taxes' or 'taxes/fees/surcharges".
APD is also only payable ex UK.
The Air Passenger Duty (APD) is leved by the UK Government and is just one of the taxes and charges you will face paying on an air fare. Other charges include airport fees, security fees, taxes imposed by other countries, fuel surcharges etc etc. I suspect it is all of these (which will vary by route) that you are seeing and confused about.0 -

Who's told you that??
Of course there should be a charge for APD. It's payable on every flight that leaves the UK. with the exception of children U16. On a flight under 2000ml in economy it's £13 per adult. On the last 3 flights I have booked I have been charged various amounts over and above £13 per adult.
Not for APD on Easyjet. You will be charged for other taxes though as well as APD. Those other taxes apply on outbound and inbound flights, at varying rates. APD is outbound flights only.0 -
The charges I am complaining about are being charged on the return legs of these flights. On complaining to Easyjet (Many times ) by e-mail and telephone I have been told that Air Passenger Duty is payable on the return flight leg as well as the outward leg.I also have a copy of their reply by e-mail. Excise Notice 550 of H.M.Revenue and Customs Transport Taxes clearly sets out the criteria for levels of APD. The destination of my flights lies in Band A, the lowest level and it is an Economy flight without connecting flights, therefore APD is chargeable on the outward leg only.0

No I am not confusing APD with any other taxes and Easyjet customer service have stated very clearly that the sums in question are being charged for the return leg.0

I have a BA return flight to London booked tomorrow and the APD is £26, £13 each way so I don't think that this is unusual
The APD would not be due on the return leg if the return leg was commencing outside the UK as it is a departure tax for departing from a UK airport. On a UK domestic flight, you depart from a UK airport on the outbound and the return
Where are you booking flights to?0 -
I did state that these extra charges were over and above the £13 per adult0
-
No these are flights departing UK and travelling to Italy0
-
I understand your comment but APD should only be charged on the country where the aircraft originally departs from and I don't believe that Easyjet can claim that they are based in Italy anyway.0
