Easyjet Air Passenger Duty

  • That's similar to what I posted earlier. Govt charges are £13 (APD) departing UK one way. On a return ticket the charges were £20.74, so £7.44 Italian govt charges.

Ref. my original post if APD is chargeable only from the departure airport why are easyjet telling me that the extra charge is for the return leg.? I have now asked for clarification from the CAA

Have you checked what the appropriate departure tax is from the country on your inbound flight? It won't be UK departure tax, but that doesn't mean there is none.

  • There is no chargeable Embarkation Tax in Italy. Easyjet sent me an e-mail clearly saying " The APD was charged on both legs of this flight not only on the outbound flight"

Either take them to court and come back to tell us of your win or, simpler, post the details of the invoice and someone will tell you want the charge is - their Customer Service person may well be simplifying what the charge is because that's the box they see it in

Taxes come with a variety of different names, there will certainly be some taxes applicable

I suspect they badly worded the response and should have said "taxes are charged on both legs" As has been said it is not APD but there are other taxes applicable to departures from Italy as per my example in this thread

So how much was this fictious charge that doesn't exist? I agree with k3lvc, the person you spoke to may have just repeated what they saw in front of them.

Just post the details with the breakdown or the different tax codes and then maybe someone will be able to tell you what it is.

They can't charge something there is no rate for set in their system. Airline systems are only set to charge APD on flights ex UK, because other country has APD. They may have a departure tax, or a passenger service charge etc.

Earlier this year, the Italian Government increased its passenger tax by €2.50 ($2.80), a decision which IATA said was taken “without any advance warning or consultation”.

As a result, passengers departing from an airport near Rome must pay €10 ($11) in tax, while those flying from all other Italian airports pay €9 ($10). The revenue from the tax will not be re-invested in aviation, IATA added.

BA certainly charges that, just as they charge a number of other taxes on flights from Italy.
  • Read Article 1 Definition of APD on the first page of Easyjet's T&C ...the answer lies within.

As others have stated multiple small taxes apply on flights from Italy - security, bag handling and council city tax are just some of those that come to mind

    I think you'll find you're wrong there.
