Easyjet Air Passenger Duty

Other countries may have taxes and charges of their own. Looking at a dummy booking on BA.com these are approx. €28 on flights from Italy (don't know if all of these charges are refundable).0

No these are flights departing UK and travelling to Italy
so no APD for Italy but there will be other taxes
Looking at ITA Matrix for a Vueling flight to Rome (ITAMatrix does not pick up Easyjet fares) taxes are....
United Kingdom Passenger Service Charge Departures (UB) £12.72
United Kingdom Air Passenger Duty Apd (GB) £13.00
Italy Embarkation Tax (IT) £15.80
Italy Security Charge (VT) £2.50
Italy Council City Tax (HB) £6.50
Italy Passenger Service Charge Departure (MJ) £0.70
Italy Security Bag Charge (EX) £1.90
I imagine the Italy taxes will be pretty standard0 -
I did state that these extra charges were over and above the £13 per adult
You statedOn an economy flight under 2.000 miles departing from a UK airport and with no connecting flights there should not be a charge for APD.Up front seats and priority boarding do not change the fact that these are economy flights.
As has been said, there are other taxes other than just APD that have to be paid, whether departing the UK or a different country. The exact charges vary by airport.
Easyjet do not charge APD when departing outside the UK. No airlines does, because the UK is the only country that has APD.
If you book a one way to Italy EZY state government charge of £13 included (APD). If you book a return the total charges are £20.74 so they're not charging APD departing Italy.I understand your comment but APD should only be charged on the country where the aircraft originally departs from and I don't believe that Easyjet can claim that they are based in Italy anyway.
Incorrect. APD is only charged when departing the UK.0 -
I am departing from the uk0

Ref. my original post if APD is chargeable only from the departure airport why are easyjet telling me that the extra charge is for the return leg.? I have now asked for clarification from the CAA0
-
Domestic flights are charged APD on both outward and inward legs0
-
If you read the responses given you will see the return flight does not have APD but it does have taxes relevant to your departure airport - so it will be Italian taxes.....this has already been stated in a number of posts.
Did easyJet actually tell you it was APD or did they tell you it was taxes for the return flight?0 -
How about posting one of your receipts (with identifiers removed) - maybe we can then give a clearer explanation0

They not charging APD on the return flight. Maybe either you misunderstood what you were told or the person you spoke to didn't explain very well. You'll be paying Italian govt charges, but not UK govt charges.
As you maintain the charge is APD how much are they charging you for something that doesn't exist?0 -
I just looked at a current easyJet booking of mine between the UK and Italy, and in defence of the OP if I request a payment confirmation it does itemise more than just UK APD under the heading "Aviation Taxes (APD)"
However, as most here are saying, APD is a UK Government tax so easyJet are wrongly lumping something else under that heading. A bit digging seems to indicate (no guarantees) that there are some Italian Government imposed taxes so it may be them, and I've no idea if they are refundable like APD if you don't travel. Mine convert to just under £8.0
