really lost now0 -
Well if it isnt detecting the printer then it sounds like a hardware fault is the cause of your problem in the first place.
Either :-
Faulty USB cable (try another)
Faulty USB port on computer (Try a different one)
Faulty printer
The driver is the correct one, although you really should have removed the old one first using the print server properties as i outlined ..
Let us know0 -
tried another cable and post. No difference.
Printer 'looks' fine, but when I click on print, I dont get the 'ready/printing' notification.
As I did not delete the old drivers (couldnt find them) and was not able to instal new ones (it wouldnt proceed), I should be left with everything as it was (though still not working !)0 -
Have found something with DRIVERS on it.
Rt click on printer > server properties> Drivers > properties > driver path
C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3
is this anything ?0 -
I still dont think its a driver problem from what you describe.
Tell me, when you unplug the usb cable, and then plug it back in, do you get any indication that windows has discovered a new device ?
eg a bell sound, or a popup ?
you can go to that path if you like and delete the w32x86 folder, you will have to stop the spooler before it will let you.
But again, regardless of the driver, if windows isnt recognising that you are plugging your printer in then its never going to work0 -
yes,, a bell sound. No visual indication
I just dont feel confidant deleting things.
If a new printer would cure things, I would get one now, but... another can of worms.
Cant see why it just happened out of the blue So it recognises it ?0 -
Ok so it might be worth removing the old drivers and trying again then.
It cant get any worse can it as it doesnt work at the moment.
Go to the server properties box that you found, and under the drivers tab, BEFORE you press properties, there should be an option to remove the driver.
Choose the option to remove the entire package0 -
add and remove are both greyed out - only properties remains (no delete option there)
X86 is there 2 x0 -
You need to "run as administrator" before it will let you remove them - Off the top of my head i cant remember where the option is in vista.
Look in "File" - if file isnt there then tap the alt key to make it appear
When you're in, remove both the x86 drivers (and the packages that go with them)
reboot your computer and go for the new install again0 -
OK found that
"remove drivers only" OR "remover drivers and package"
there are 2 lots of Brother drivers . Do it/which ? to both ?0
