I had a week in Malta last autumn and it was amazing. We bought one of the weekly bus passes and got all around the island on it. There's so much to see and do. I'd certainly recommend it.

We got the 12 journeys for €15 pass. We've just started our 3rd week of 4, and our 1st card has just run out, so bought another each this morning. Definitely v.good value, even though a lot of the buses quickly fill up.

Pete Not such good value at the moment as they have dropped the basic fare to E 1.50 for the winter.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

    I will be traveling alone.

No to beach holidays. More cultural. Been to Andalusia, Spain and Tuscany plus Rome Italy past two years. Both been coach holidays.

I need to look for inspiration this week as been given my holiday form for next year, which needs to be handed in on Friday
Goodness they give you little time to plan your trip do they? My leave for 2017 won't be added to the leave booking system for at least another month. I can book leave all through the year as long as other colleagues in my section haven't got there first.

i often go to Bologna, Italy in september and have been very lucky with good weather. I plan to go again in 2017. Beautiful city with fewer tourists than in Rome or Florence.

I enjoyed staying in Sorrento and visiting Pompeii, Vesuvius, Capri and towns along the Amalfi Coast. I can also recommend Sicily as a lovely place to go in early September. Going up Mount Etna, which has various craters and is three times the height of Vesuvius, visiting Vulcano and other islands, plus staying in Taormina in a beachside hotel with views of Isola Bella was lovely. There's a lot of places and sights I didn't see and wished I had stayed in Palermo a few nights too as it's a bigger island than you realise and we could have seen more by staying in two places.

    NW Spain, Galicia/Cantabria etc?
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • We've been to Lake Garda and Sicily in September and can highly recommend both places. In particular, Sicily stays hot longer than other places in the med. We spent a few days in Rome last September, and have booked similarly for Venice next year. It's certainly a good time to go to Italy, and it's definitely one of my favourite European countries.

Thought I'd sent this suggestion yesterday, but now realise 1-word message was rejected as too short!

    Lovely city!

A week in Malta could cover a lot of the culture and history.

    3 hour flight from LGW.

I'm there now enjoying the warm autumn sunshine.:)

Yes Malta, but please don't come to Gozo. Too many tourists and we residents end up having to stand on buses, putting up with arrogance, pushing in queues and being run off the narrow pavements.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.
