Hi gunton, where in the country are you?

You're 20 when? And you have one A Level but are completing others this year? Are you officially estranged from your parents (it seems so as you are getting IS)?

I might have an idea, will ask work on Monday.

My daughter is 19 in October and has just finished her A levels. She decided to do another course at College for two years, so will be 21 in the October after her course finishes. She is getting EMA for the two years and as her mother I'm getting child benefit. As long as you are on a continuous course and have not had a break in your education the you can get EMA.
Are you taking another A level in which case you would definetly get the payment.Other courses apply too. My daughter's doing an HND. It has nothing to do with your College in that sense, The EMA is a government payment so the rules are across the board.
    I hope this helps
  • Have a baby :rotfl: That way you can keep your income support and then when you go to uni swap it for £15,000 of loand and grants per year! Now all you need is a willing participant.....any rich men out there prepared to oblige the young lady?? :rotfl:

Sorry couldnt resist a bit of controversy ;-)

    Hi gunton,

Unfortunately there's no further help available, your best option would be to complete the A Level on a one day evening course (if available) and work the rest of the time. Or work around your college hours I'm afraid.

However on a side note, when you are 20 then you should be able to be your sister's named guardian and may be able to claim her Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits, so that may improve the money situation.

Have you actually spoken to the department for EMA . I don't understand if my daughter's getting it and she's 19 in a few days and will be nearly 21 when finished. Please don't give up yet. I'm sure there's something for you.
