    If you say so. ;)

As I have said, they are great car to drive but very unreliable. Their popularity rose from their distinguished handling and performing attributes but most sensible people on the road realise that our public roads are not race tracks.

    They're not very unreliable.

The problem is they have gained the reputation for offering more reliability, but in reality they're no better or no worse than other cars.

So why do you keep veering wildly off topic to go on about them.

Plus, you're quoting a lot of detail on BMWs for someone who isn't a fan. At least you've managed to avoid using E-numbers this time round.

I, personally, don't care if you are DM, or how you feel about BMW, as long as you contribute in a meaningful way and stop derailing threads.

I don't necessarily have to be a fan of BMW, but I do consider myself a petrol head and I think most petrol heads even who aren't BMW fans are aware that they have a number o very powerful and capable cars.
Back to the OP, asking questions about BMW reliability and maintenance costs as well being reluctant to purchased an approved used BMW from the main dealer shouldn't be the initial thoughts of a consumer looking to buy such cars. What is your annual mileage and what do you need the car for? Maybe we can think of alternatives

    Why?

If the O/P wants an X3 and has a reasonable budget for something fresh ish, then why try to talk them out of it?

Considering BMW only use diesel engines for the X3s and the OP only does less than 5k miles a year, they should at least know there is a strong chance the DPF will get blocked.

Most people, petrol heads or not, know that BMW does some fast cars. They don't, however feel the need to quote 0-60 times because almost no-one cares. Cars are either slow/normal/fast/really fast.

The OP isn't asking for car advice, they've decided what they want. They just want to know where to buy. They've been told that, and probably chased off now anyway.

A bit off topic but still MSE. I work in an industry with plentiful overtime if you want it. I was talking to a colleague who had worked every Sunday for the last year. We discussed his daily rate. We then moved onto cars. He was saying that he had bought a new BMW but it wasn't quite the engine he wanted so he'd swapped it. Exactly the same car but a bigger engine. He said he'd paid extra to jump the queue. It just turned out the extra he paid was exactly the same as his yearly overtime payments. We both realized this. I was thinking what an idiot. I think he was a bit embarrassed. People can choose to buy these prestige vehicles but you have to realize that they cost. Either in overtime, more years working before retirement or less spending elsewhere unless you've inherited a fortune or won the lottery etc.
