  • And it gets better.

ME: Why is me looking for a 2 for 1 deal that favours me so strange? That's exactly what you did to me the other week so why is it now wrong?

HIM: No, this was not 2-for-1 deal. It was a straight one free meal as a birthday present from Brewers.

If it was 2-for-1 then I would agree with what you said.

You are all completely correct. I'm going to email him a link to this thread then cut him out. Mean-ness personified is spot on.

I wonder if he'll join MSE to try to justify/explain his position.....:D

It's a shame your friendship is over but there's only one person to blame.

    Quite so Pollycat.

His latest reply is conciliatory but I'm not going to take him up on his offer.

Breaking_free, it's like saying "I want your birthday present or at least a share of it". But if you insist...
If I find a 2-for-1 deal somewhere, I'll pay for both. It's not worth an argument to me.

Wanting a share of his birthday present? Yes, he really wrote that.

I've gone ahead and sent him the link to this thread. When he reads this post I'm typing now he'll be gracious enough not to bother contacting me again.

    Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Surely he is correct because it wasn't a 2-for-1 voucher.

I don't think it was his either...

OP I agree with a lot of PP - I like being frugal, but there is frugal and there is tight/mean. (Can't believe the 5p thing!)

Its not very friendly though is it? Friends share, friends extend their good fortunes to each other, friends don't sit and enjoy a free meal while their other friend pays full price unless its a situation where that has been pre-planned and everybody is happy with it (e.g. one friend is broke the other isn't, one friend is happily treating the other etc.)

I guess the OP's friend might be looking for other people to ( freeload on) go out with, I'm sure he'll appreciate your generosity. :D

I wouldn't expect my friend to share their birthday present with me. I wouldn't go out with them behind their wife's back either.

What a joyful existence they must lead.
