I Daniel Blake is based on facts...I have heard worse real life stories for the past 6 years...it is Savile who lives in some Daily Hate Mail bubble, and completely brainwashed. The fact that he dismissed facts (the 0.5 per cent figures for benefit fraud) says it all. That's what the ignorant do...when they don't like the facts they make up fiction. Like IDS and the 'phoney' ads about how 'sanctions helped them'! Give us a break. Only the most dull witted would fall for such crap. I've met so many people like this, stupid enough to be brainwashed by the Right Wing propaganda that is drip fed to them daily...The fact that he quotes from the Channel 5 poverty !!!!!! channel says it all...who but the seriously brainwashed would lap up anything on that channel?!! He needs to look into who owns most of the media....

I didn't find savile's post particularly vile or ignorant. It was merely a strong statement of opinion, not exactly factual but one which many people share.

It is your use of emotive language and derisory remarks that I find most likened to the gutter press.

Regarding the point about benefit claims higher in poor areas. There is a well proven link between poverty, stress and ill health. So as the gap betwen rich and poor widens one should expect there to be more ill health.

That is exactly so, Glen Clark. Have you read The Spirit Level? Inequality has rocketed since monetarism. More equal societies have less crime, fewer teenage pregnancies, fewer mental health problems and are happier. The research by the authors is extensive and includes lots of graphs and statistics. The UK comes out as particularly bad compared to Scandinavian countries and Japan. Very interesting (and disturbing)

Those of us who have seen the Benefit System from the inside know that I Daniel Blake could happen.
You just think you know better because you have read the gutter press.
For some life is easier on benefits. If they have kids they have to be housed etc. The DWP pays the rent to them instead of the Landlord to evade their responsibility for finding habitable accommodation. The claimant blows the rent on fripperies knowing the Council will have tyo rehouse them same day they are evicted for rent arrears because they have kids. For the likes of Mick Philpot kids are a passport to benefits.
But for many others, like 'Daniel Blake', its just as the movie portrays.

Indeed it does Schrodie. Ken Loach researched real life stories before making the film and as a campaigner and someone who helps the sick and disabled online, I have heard many a story, even worse than portrayed in the film. I have known people die and commit suicide. These people who are fed poverty !!!!!! daily lap it up because they have fallen for the divide and rule tactics until they find themselves or their loved ones in that situation - then they are in for a rude awakening.

And now you give yourself away as a disability hater too..because many disabled people have to sit down all day. Lucky you, if you can walk around and work...and I suppose if a disabled person needs to use a taxi, to call out an engineer, to get hair cut, or buy food, you would advise those he to she pays to refuse the money! You are talking such !!!!!! Money flows in and flows out...disabled people employ others. It's not one way traffic.
