People who rent their homes are no more likely to be a problem than people who own their homes.
I believe most people would disagree with that statement.

In my experience private renters can be worse than social housing. Different ownership also causes different problems. Short term private renters can have no long term interest so little interest in the property or neighbourhood. Social housing can have a proportion of problem tenants but properties and tenants tend to be better managed than private rentals and tenancies are more secure so may last longer. Local to me large and expensive owner occupied properties have tried land grabs of rights of way, killed mature pavement trees to keep their cars clean. Pruned protected trees. Regularly removed vast quantities of leaves from large driveways by leaf blowing them onto a busy road which is dangerous and illegal. The same people empty their gate mounted letter box litter by poking it through the gate onto the pavement. Another family regularly had large bonfires burning their household rubbish. A house opposite regularly abandoned rubbish and items needing to go to the tip on the pavement outside their house. After numerous council complaints they started sneaking out at night and dumping it on the pavement on the opposite side of the road.

All anti social but poor behavior by owner occupiers tends to get less criticism.

So if given the choice would you rather live next door to someone who owned their home or rented it? Honest answer please.

I'm next door to a tenent now, on its fourth, last one was ok, it was just the company.

A next door neighbour to a mate of mine, who owns, does not like people parking outside their house - no yellow lines, no resident parking, no shops nearby to leave car and walk off, not a private road. I wouldn't like to live next door to this !!!!.

I have both as neighbours. My building has 3 properties in it. I own mine, the one below is rented and the ground floor is owner-occupier. The tenants are hands down the better neighbours. The tenant-neighbours take their turn at mowing the communal lawn, taking out bins, cleaning the communal areas. The people on the first floor don't. The couple on the first floor also play their music far too loud (thankfully once I set my front door I can't hear it but the people on the 1st floor can) and when they argue (which is quite a lot) you have to endure a lot of door slamming as one of them flounces out the building.

The first property I ever bought was on a newish estate with a mixture of social tenants, private tenants, shared ownership and owner-occupiers. It was fine.

Edit: There ain't nowt as queer as folk. Whether tenants or owners you can't tell what kind of person will move in next door until they do.

But you have still not answered the original question. Let's put it another way. You sell up and move to a nice semi-detached with the one next door empty. You get a knock on the door from someone, you answer. They hand you a piece of paper on which a question asks:

"Would you rather the person who moves in next door is a buyer or renter"? You can only answer buyer or renter, nothing else. What would your answer be?

If they don't adversely affect my home life why would i ?[/QUOTE]

Question avoided again, you should be a politician.

I would abstain from answering because whether one rents or is an owner-occupier is no indication to me as to whether a neighbour will be a good one or not. !!!!!!!!s come in all shapes and sizes.

Why do you not believe people who tell you they really don't mind either way? I wouldn't, you can toss a coin if you want to get my answer.

I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't, but that's not an answer available to give to the question.

The question is you have to decide either way, yet no one will give a straight answer because they know what their answer would have to be.
