Happy new year everyone
Picked up my very cold and wet 50p from outside the door this morning and put it in the pot. I have marked it with a sharpie so its not spendable now but at least it will be kept, in previous years most of the time the coin gets muddled with others and gets spent.0 -
Afternoon all!! Happy New Year to Everyone!!!

I potted £2.50 on Wednesday and I am potting £3.00 now all I seem to be getting in change is blinking £2 coins and 50p's haha! But it will help me save.
I also have some £1 coins in there so once open what will happen will the bank take them?Sealed Pot Challenge #012

The older round pound coin will only be legal tender until 15th October!!
Only October :eek: however I think the banks should accept them after that, like they do with old bank notes.
I did know a new £1 was coming out, I have a dilemma about this, I will post a new thread about it when I get chance. We have been saving round pounds for years one of each we could find of the different pictures, we have about £20 worth. I never minded keeping them as if desperate I would just spend them but now they are going to be worthless do I 'throw away' £20 for the sake of a few coins. Son wants to keep them but I'm not sure I suppose they will be interesting to look at when he gets older to see the old versions (I still have an old £1 note) but £20 is a lot of money!.0 -

I have put out 50p on the doorstep tonight and will taking it back in tomorrow. Think I will mark it somehow and put it on my pot, be nice to 'find' it again in November.
I have done this since i was a child, it came form my mother sadly she died when I was young so I never had change to ask her why, or where the tradition came from? I would be interested if anyone knows of anyone else who does this, I have mention it to a few people, no one has heard of it they all think I am barmy :rotfl:
I would assume that it used to be a sixpence at one point, and would bring good luck to the household for the coming year
. . . quick google says the same thing :rotfl: Its the kind of thing the Scots would do I think, DH's aunt was always crossing the baby's palm with silver bless her.
Right, so, nothing to pot today as all my shopping was done on card (3 different supermarkets as no-one seemed to have any meat today  Mr W was even closed! what was all that about!! :rotfl:)
Have a lovely day all and i'll try not to be such a stranger :rotfl:SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £2470.95/£1000 (19) £0/£10000 -

Happy New Year Potters!

Potting my first coins of the new year - £1.00 (2 x 50p)
I'm assuming the old £1 coins will be still be legal tender in from October for a while until they are out of circulation - like the old £5 notes, which are still around.:staradmin Star from Sue-UU

I was just popping in to post about the £1 coins. The new ones are released on 28th March and the old ones are legal tender until 15th October, so there will need to be an early count up for £1 coins (unless you live near the Bank of England, as that's the only way you can swap them after they cease to be legal tender.)
There must be no rules about the period of overlap, as the old £5 continues until May (nearly 8 months after the new) and the pound coin only gets 6 and a half.
