"Sealed Pot Challenge ~ 10"

I was just popping in to post about the £1 coins. The new ones are released on 28th March and the old ones are legal tender until 15th October, so there will need to be an early count up for £1 coins (unless you live near the Bank of England, as that's the only way you can swap them after they cease to be legal tender.)
There must be no rules about the period of overlap, as the old £5 continues until May (nearly 8 months after the new) and the pound coin only gets 6 and a half.

Banks will take them but will then bank them just like they did with old £10 and £50 notes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. Bank of England or any bank? I think this needs to be clarified. I m getting a bit concerned not about the ones in my pot (i know where they are :rotfl:) but I have a few £1 coins around the house (old bags purses, chucked in drawers etc) that I don't want to 'lose'
At least I have warning I just need to find them all now
they will make a nice contribution to the pot.
I think the short notice might have something to do with coins being used in vending machines whereas notes aren't so much.0 -
Banks are fine, don't panic they will accept them after October, I still accept old £50 notes that left circulation years ago.
Really don't panic it just means shops or vending machines won't accept the coins after October and you will need to bank or exchange them in the banks.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. Just popping in to say a very late Happy Christmas to you all.
A very happy potting new year too!
Well I have potted nothing over the last two weeks but have enjoyed a lovely ten day break in a cottage in the hills of Derbyshire. It was so good to relax properly.
The potting will begin again tomorrow.
I think when the new £1 coins come out, I will open my £1 tin , change the coins for notes & pop the notes in a new tin. I got 2 new tins for Christmas that are a good size, so that will work well for me.
Happy potting for 2017 everyone xSPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65

I am planning to use the coin machine at HSBC. I wonder if they will be accepted that way? :think:0 -
Evening all
Finally remembered to pot my weekly £10 :j
For those of you saving the new £5 note - did you know that there are four specially produced ones that are each worth up to £50,000.
They were commissioned as a special project by The Tony Huggins-Haig Gallery and one was spent in each country of the UK. Two have already been found but the other two are still out there. The numbers are AM32 885552 and AM32 885554, and have a tiny engraving of Jane Austin in the clear window. Good hunting
Good luck with the potting for 2017 - let's try to smash the total this year. Hope you all have a super week

Yes my Dad told me, how he gets to know these things I have no idea! I didn't know the serial numbers thats a help as I have been scrutinising every one I get :rotfl:
Does anyone have an AA01, closest I have got to it is AA18

Re the round pound, just been told on another thread that they will always be exchangeable. Via any bank for a while and even after that you can take them to the Bank of England where they will be exchangeable at face value for all time.
I still think I am going to save mine in a separate pot to exchange before October just because its easier. I can withdraw notes from my own account to swap them and spend as normal.
Someone remind me in August I need to start swapping so I spend them gradually, I don't think shops will be too happy taking payment in all pound coins!0
