Welcome Miss D Meanor You will be made very welcome here and you don't need to worry about a target. As DreamerHelen wisely says any amount you save is more than you would have saved if you saved nothing.

Been potting bits all week rather than one amount at end of week. I knew roughly how much I would end up with on SPC9 but going for the 'no idea' option for SPC10. New money box still feels ridiculously light. Have to remember it's only been a week!

Hello, put in £8 something today and at least 25p* each day this week so building nicely.

    * On Tuesday I calculated that if I put 25p in a day I will have over £90 so I have set that as my absolute minimum, although hoping for a lot more.
  • Mummytummy & Sue-UU Thank you for the warm welcome, excited to see how this goes :)

Put £3.53 into my pot that's all my change left from coffee and sweets this morning. Think that will be what I will be doing is putting all my change in as I tend to only spend money once a week on a Friday to get coffee so don't need all the spare change around. Also won't be counting love the idea of a secret, though I might separate the money between pots e.g £1 here, 20p there as I have quiet a few pigs lol!

  • Mrs Shazbat,
I had to make a deposit into my bank account (not SPC money),and for the first time I was encouraged to use the paying -in machine (at Natwest). This was all notes: the machine counted the notes, gave me a receipt, and the money was immediately in my account.
When you use the equivalent coin machines at Natwest,I think you are given a "receipt" for the money, then need to queue up at the tellers with your receipt to have the equivalent amount put into your account.
So if your branch has one of those machines,I would feel confident using it.Maybe with M+S it might even be more straight-forward:maybe the money is automatically added to your account (like Natwest coin machine). You will have to check.

When I came home from work this afternoon, and was getting changed,I noticed a new £5 note under my bed!I know a few weeks ago I had collected a few of them to pot together.Obviously this one had escaped. Now safely potted (well,in my holding pot until I sort out my pots)

Yeah I've done self-service when it's been notes/cheques but this is £200 in £2 coins and I wasn't aware there were any coin self-service machines as I rarely venture into a branch these days. I just find Santander's restrictions on actual cash in or out infuriating (since I have 3 accounts with them) and pointless seeing as they're ... what's the word ... oh yes, a BANK! Anyhow although I'm off work ill today I'm going to nip down to my nearest Yorkshire Bank. They happily took the contents of my large plastic bottle last year (nearly £500) - if they weren't so technologically backward I'd switch back to them for my personal account :rotfl: But thanks for the tip!

  • My Quidco money transferred over OK so that was nice but I've temporarily donated it to a good cause. My best friend has just had a precancerous lump the size of an apple removed from her breast and only gets SSP so is a bit short at the moment. She didn't want to ask but she's probably helped me out the same way over the years so it's a no brainer for me. I have a good job that pays me when I'm off ill (up to 6 months) and I don't have to use my holiday entitlement either (which she does so she gets paid). She's not entitled to free reconstructive surgery because it's precancerous (the lump they just removed was the size of an apple and there's still some in there but it was going to leave her with deep physical changes so surgeon needed to consult her first) AND because her nan had it before and not her mum. I'm planning a trip to London for her birthday (which was in October), but now with another op looming we're going to postpone till April when hopefully the weather will be nicer and both our annual leave entitlements will be refreshed so she can at least have an odd extra day off to make the most of it.

  • Good evening all.

I have decided to pot £5.00 every Friday and any 20p and 50p coins I get. I have potted quite a few this past week.
  • Potted another £2 :)

  • Hi Sue - thank you so much for being our fearless leader so far - best of wishes to your lovely DD and family, here's hoping 2017 is a better year.

This year I would like to raise my target to €350. I'm saving for my DD - that's all - I'd like to be able to put any proceeds towards a long term savings bond for her.. boring as but it could go a long way in the future I hope.

Me and DH are going home to Ireland in 2 weeks, I'm so excited. Where I am at the moment is so expensive- can't wait to have a rummage in some charity shops and buy baby stuff at home..
